The whole "Let's start a chapter, then stop the action with an explanation of who everyone is" is a baaad writing habit I picked up from reading these books. It can be done, but not in the ham-handed way it's presented in the BSC books.

Awkward attempts at mentioning that racism is bad.

And oh man I hate Maureen McGill. She's on my top list of least favourite characters (along with Dawn and Shannon. Not puppy Shannon because she's probably adorable.)

I hate that they put Stacey on the spot. That's so crappy. The parents should decide and offer the child the chance to give input IF SHE WANTS instead of telling her to pick between them.

Also depending on what Stacey's dad does and his position, finding another job paying what he needs to support Maureen's lifestyle might not be so easy. Plus he's already working his tail off to maintain her as it is. When would there be time to job hunt?

Then she says this “I guess another thing you should know about the Walkers is that they are black.” Why do I need to know this?--Like I've said on so many other snarks, they describe race in the most clumsy way possible. I compare it to asking somebody to sit down before you tell them bad news. "You might want to sit down for this. Your grandfather had a heart attack and died." "Sit down, I don't want you to faint when you hear this piece of information. *insert characters here* are black." It's just stupid
