#128 Claudia and the Little Liar Chapters 1-8

So somehow, Karen’s Doll didn't kill me. And my kitchen full of bees has been (mostly) resolved, so I’m back to bingeing on caffeine. Not to mention the vodka and orange juice down there.

Today we come to #128 Claudia and the Little Liar. A book about Haley Braddock being a huge bitch to the BSC. Nice to see a kid that isn’t perfect. Too bad I’m ( Read more... )

Man, I despise Sara Hill. How come there's no book called "[insert baby-sitter name here] and the Mystery of Why Sara Hill Is Such a Hellbrat"?

This. I was the fat kid and I think if I'd grown up with that I would have sat on her by now. Norman's patience and the fact that he usually has a really good attitude throughout the books is really something I marvel at.

Yeah, I like Norman and I hate how the books treat his family's bullshit like it's just a difficult situation for which nobody's really to blame. Let me tell you, if I'd been babysitting that day, I would've been all like, "Listen, you little asshole, I know the sort of shit you've pulled in the past. Dawn or Mary Anne or Claudia might think it's cute when you insult your brother or destroy him in fucking snowman-effigy, but I'm frankly appalled by your behavior. If Norman tripped you, I'm sure you've earned it many times over. Here's a band-aid. Now run along and try to do something other than be a budding sociopath."

So, it's probably a good thing that I don't babysit, honestly. No matter how much I might want to do it, I know it's not acceptable to call a kid an asshole or condone tripping a sibling.

It's because she's a girl and girls are never wrong in these books if there's a (non-romantic) boy involved. Or maybe I'm remembering wrong. Or maybe it's because she's thin. Thin people and smart people are always right.

I didn't get babysat much, but on the off occasion when I was, my parents never put it upon the sitter to make sure I did my homework. Sometimes I got very stressed out about it and it was an uphill, hours long battle. And you know what? My Mom was responsible enough to know it was her job, not our neighbor's poor teenage daughter, to work me through it.

they're having a dance at the elementary school? I call BS (unless it's one of those daddy/daughter fundraiser things). the Braddocks are just trying to go out and run errands without the kids going along.

My elementary school had a yearly dance, every spring during our "Read-A-Thon." I don't remember a lot of it (only attended in fifth grade), but it was basically a lot of feel-good music and classics (like the Electric Slide and stuff), and also black lights. If it's something like that, I can see it happening. Though why the BSC isn't organizing it, I don't know.

Great snark!! "that bitch that can’t eat sugar" and "WHATCHOO SAY BITCH?!" is killing me! XD

And I honestly can't ever remember Stacey being a ~whiz~ at basketball and playing for all her childhood, have I missed these books?!

And I love Abby, I really do. XD

xD I figure if I can make myself laugh, I must be doing good.

Yeah, that seems like a throw it in to me. Unless everyone in NYC plays basketball, because it's ~SO URBAN~
