OMG, yesterday SUCKED at work, and now I am waiting for someone else to fix something that's my responsibility but that I can't fix because the vendor has to fix it and it's driving me craaaaaaaaazy, so. Here I am

Happy Birthday! That sounds Amazing. And I can only imagine that if you organize a get-together it'll be Fab and happily attended. Who Wouldn't want to hang out with you? :D
Once again, I am swept away by your tide of awesome. :)
I actually would like to see STID again NOT in 3-D. I find the 3-D n general to be quite gimmicky and distracting. Not as badly in this movie as in IM3. I don't think that the visual idiom has caught up with the technology. Like, depth of field is supposed to tell us where to direct our eyes (blurry object vs. clear object) and can really help the story-telling, but when it turns up in a 3D movie that's supposed to emulate actual seeing things, having a blurry object in the foreground makes no sense because you're supposed to be looking at it like you're there and you don't experience vision that way. *handwave* What I mean is I'd like to go back and see it under conditions in which I can pay more attention to the story than to the weird crawly skin the visual idiom gave me.
But it was really very beautiful. And I heart Uhura forever. And basically, brain radios.
I MEAN COME ON. WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY, SIRI am going to append this to all of my conversations from now on

I wonder if stuff like you're describing with the 3D is an advantage to me not being very visual--I don't know how I'm supposed to be looking at something, so it doesn't bother me as much to not look at it that way, if that makes sense? On some level, it's ALL a blur to me. Hee. But I completely understand your objection, and I do really wish that 3D was not suddenly so omnipresent.
If they could just be either one of those things, they would be so much easier to handle because you could take 'em or leave 'em, but both is ridiculous because you can't take 'em or leave 'em.YES. EXACTLY. It's so frustrating! ARGH. I am slightly comforted to know that I'm not the only one who falls prey to this, though

Star Trek was absolutely awesome, wasn't it?! So far I've seen it 3 times because I am a freak. lol ITA about Uhura. Actually she and Kirk in the turbolift was awesome. And the bit in the captured ship where she's dressing down Spock, and brings Kirk in on it was priceless!
I was expecting to hate Carol, but I really liked her. And she actually reminded me of one of the Doctors when she got all excited about getting to open the torpedo. I adore the single minded excited scientist schtick.
Funny enough, after the first movie I could go Kirk/Bones or Kirk/Spock. But after this movie (even though there wasn't a lot of them together) I am totally Kirk/Bones. Maybe partly because I am being entertained by the Spock/Uhura.
I actually liked BC as Khan. He appeared nice and evil/crazy to me. OTOH, I am not attached to the original movie, and wasn't horribly fond of RM as Khan.
I totally want to see it again! I will definitely buy it when it comes out, too.

YES. So much wonderful stuff!

HEE, yes. That was so adorable! I just liked her a lot, and the one interview I've seen with the actress was INCREDIBLY charming, as well.

YES. I love consequences!!! (Randomly: have you ever seen Farscape? That show is pretty amazing at consequences, and at cause and effect. That is my favorite moral construction of a universe.)
OMG REALLY? THAT IS AWESOME. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. (It's still pretty much my favorite show. That and Slings and Arrows. Agh. BEST. I met Ben Browder and Claudia Black [and Francesca Buller]! They were amazing! Ben winked at me! Claudia's magical hair cured my hangover!)

I'm not a big Sherlock fan, either. So agree about coming in without prior ideas.
Ah, I get the lacking people of color thing.
