Bryn hadn't shifted to her other form in months. With her ability not being tied to the moon like in mythology or well, in Alex's case, she didn't have to unless she wanted to. It was hard to feel comfortable wandering around in her other form in such a populated area, especially since many wouldn't have any idea that it was her, but Bryn had

His mind, generally filled to the brim with mathematical algorithms and quantum theories, was too busy for something so mundane as sleep. Over the years, he found that he required very little of it compared to normal human beings, and while this struck him as ironic, he did find it useful in that it gave him plenty of time to get his inventions completed. Sometimes he would go days without rest, until with the gentle prodding of Minion, he would finally crash into a deep slumber, only to wake up several hours rejuvenated and ready to continue his work.
He’s prowling the halls himself this evening; his hands are idle and he’s growing more agitated by the day. There’s little to do here in way of technology, and there’s are very few here that he considers to be worth his time.
That’s his own fault, he realizes, but like hell if he’s going to admit it.
He doesn’t know how to function like this - in an enclosed environment with other people he doesn’t know. He doesn’t do all that well with the people he does ( ... )

Her bottom dropped to the ground and she lowered herself to the floor, trying not to look threatening. Bryn even purred a bit in the back of her throat and let her tail flick about lazily, hoping these small signals might imply that she was friendly.
Please don't shoot her evil friend?

Was it purring at him?
“…Er.”
If he was awkward with humans, he was equally awkward with animals that could tear him into a thousand tiny pieces and have him for lunch. His eyes drifed to those massive paws, and he cleared his throat.
“Ah. Well. We seem to be at a bit of am impasse, don’t we.”

Her tail continued to flick from side to side, and she considered how she could convey to him that she was friendly besides what she already had...
Wondering what might happen if she got to her feet again, Bryn slowly eased up to a standing position and licked at one of her paws. Perhaps feigned casual body language would help? She wasn't quite sure. Bryn had never had to communicate with humans before in this form.

He'd decided that sleeping in Sergei's would've been a bad idea.
But now Zeke decided to take a break from the kitchen. He was still getting used to the place. And on his ridiculously short trek back to his room, Zeke spots a particularly large cat. Large enough that it could possibly eat him if it wanted to.
Granted, it was... kind of familiar looking. Ish. But Zeke wasn't much of an animal person, and fro goodness sakes what's with him and giant animals, anyway? He always seems to run into them. But at least it's not Fenrir.
So he takes a step back, stares at the large cougar thing, and gives it his best 'trust-me-i-taste-god-awful' look.

The fact that he seems wary of her, well, she notices that a bit later and carefully sits in place. It wouldn't do to scare someone or get them to attack out of some perceived need for self-defense.
It probably didn't help appearances that she could still smell good things coming out of the nearby kitchen that made her lick her lips.

So, with restored confidence that he isn't going to be turned into a meal, he smiles and crouches, being careful to mind his bad leg. Someone hasn't been doing their morning exercises.
"Oi, and who might you be?" Though he's already assuming this cat person can't talk, or else they would've said something already. He turns a quick glance at the kitchen behind him. "Come for snack?"
Reply
Carefully, she padded forward, all casual ease, but stopped a couple feet away before sitting again with a small purr and a nod. A snack wouldn't be such a bad idea, all things considered. The deer she'd caught once had been incredibly fast and far more a challenge than she'd anticipated. Going after another didn't really appeal.

His last experience with a big cat in the keep had not gone well at all, and in his experience big animals with claws and fangs just want to kill at eat you, so he won't be moving.
But the keep was different, so he doesn't move to attack. Just watch.
"Er...nice kitty?"

She kneaded the ground in front of her a bit for good measure, keeping her claws carefully tucked away.
See that lack of aggression? See how friendly?

"Are you another shapeshifter or did you escape from the stable?"
So far all the shapeshifter's he's seen in animal form could talk, after all.

When he questions, Bryn is about to answer, but then he follows up with a second question and then she isn't sure how to respond. A nod to one question wouldn't work for the other.
Then again, the animals here didn't seem quite as communicative as she was then, so she settled for a nod. She could...try to set him straight later if necessary.

He half turns, brows knitting together as he tries to trace the source as coming from upstairs or down. He heads back upstairs, taking the steps two at a time until he is on the second floor.
There is a figure ahead of him, a mixture of scents telling him something that is rather .. surprising.
It's a cougar moving down the hall before him, female, and decidedly Bryn-like in scent.
His voice is soft and there is a degree of shock and awe in his tone.
"Bryn? Wow .. you weren't kidding, were you?" His lips pull into a warm smile as he approaches.

She came to a stop a few feet away, and sat, giving him a slightly questioning look, as if asking him what he thought.

When she sits in front of him, head tilted slightly to one side in question, Alex chuckled. Stepping forward, he squatted in front of her and lifted his hands to cup her cheeks, thumbs smoothing over the smooth fur beneath them.
He's not meaning at all to invade her personal space, but he is boggling and simply thrilled.
"You, my dear," he says softly, but easily loud enough for her to catch, "Are a beautiful feline specimen."
Nope, no shame at all.

Of course, when he speaks again Bryn is very, very grateful that she can't really blush in this form. The compliment is more than welcome, one small bandage over the hurt of her parents' rejection.
Bryn looks away and shifts the top of her head under his head instead.

But now was time to relax. No planning, no thinking, just drinking until there was as much alcohol in his system as there was blood.
As he made his way to the stables he noticed movement. It was a cat, a very big cat. A very big cat that he was sure he recognized.
He thought about calling her out but he wasn't sure if he should give out that he knew her secret. Of course there was a chance someone might panic at the sight of a cougar wandering around the keep, especially considering what Alex did a few months back. The last thing he wanted was Bryn getting hurt, so for now Kevas hung back and kept an eye on her.

God, this felt good. she ran back toward the stables as fast as she could, letting her legs fully stretch out and her tail whip behind her. Yes, she was feeling pretty amazing right then.
Of course as she drew closer, she caught sight of a familiar troll, and she skidded to a stop. Time to see how he would react her...
Reply
Kevas gave her a friendly smile and waved. Maybe it wasn't enough to clue her in that he knew her but at least it would let her know that he wasn't here to hurt her.
Reply
She tilted her head to the side, as if questioning what he intended to do next. He didn't seem at all concerned about her, or preparing to attack...so perhaps he had already caught onto the fact that she was a resident and not just an animal?
