Hey guys! I'm alive, I swear, even though I'm not around practically at all. Here's the low-down on the last couple of weeks.

Hi, saw your update on FC (and yeah, don't worry, nobody minds waiting for awesomeness), and then read this, and... hey, you're a youth pastor! That's very cool. I was raised in fairly devout anabaptist tradition, but don't know a ton of other Christians, my own fault for moving to the big, secular, French-speaking North, where catholicism is considered dubious and nobody is convinced that being protestant is even a thing (like, are protestants really Christian? And why would they want to be anyway?). So anyway, I managed to find a church, and I teach Sunday school, and would be totally up for swapping ideas about resources for youth ministry, though it sounds as if you're pretty on top of things.

Best wishes with your awesome job and awesome apartment. The writing time will come, don't worry.

Sure, I'd love to exchange ideas! I don't know how helpful I'd be, or even what kind of exact things I could request, but any time you want to talk that would be fun! Hehe, I'm glad that you got to find a church even though the pickings were sort of slim. I feel like having a church community is so important. I mean, you can pray anywhere, God is everywhere, but there's something about being WITH others that feels better sometimes, you know?

Hehe, the writing is coming. Slowly but it's coming. :)

Heh, Sunday school is cancelled over Christmas, but I got motivated and looked up what I'm supposed to teach for my first week back. Apparently it's the baptism of Jesus, and my curriculum suggests bringing a doll and having them act out a baptism. Since our kids always come up to the front to watch baptisms anyway (and often have to be prevented from going head first into the font, 'cause they're rambunctious that way), they're already pretty familiar with the whole protocol, but maybe they'll enjoy the role-playing. I still need to think of a craft, though...

I once heard this Catholic theologian speak, Mary Jo Leddy, and she described God's grace as rain that falls from the sky, and the church as the bowl that helps us hold that grace. I liked that metaphor. I definitely think we still need churches, even in this secular age.

Christmas must be a busy time for a youth minister, hope you're staying sane. Merry Christmas!
