Hey all!
Hope you're doing well. Just a FYI - it's been almost a year since this generation of moderator has been in charge.
Pretty soon, elections and such will come up for new moderators, and a possible changing of the guard.
A few reminders:
I haven't been able to just -stop- for quite some time. And I'm not going to stop for quite a bit still.
On Friday the 24th, Boss told me that I'd be flying to Florida to train my team the following Wednesday. I've never trained anyone for work before. Cue my freaking out and working late to try to get a presentation together.
On Saturday, my mom and grandparents were taking a five-hour round trip to come visit us for the day. They only do this 3-4 times per year. Cue a frantic early morning housecleaning and cooking fest with the wife and I.
On Sunday, I planted my seedings, because they were ready and i knew it'd be a couple weeks before I had another whole day I could dedicate to it. Then I spent the evening preparing my training material. Monday was supposed to be a day off, but I did more prepping throughout Monday instead.
On Tuesday, I woke up at 3am to catch a 6am train an hour away. Flew in to Florida at 11am, and was in the office to work by 12:30. Went out until 1am Wednesday with my coworkers.
Wednesday, I woke uip, went in, and spent the day doing pre-training stuff. Kicked butt with the training, then went out with everyone until 12:30am Thursday. Worked until noon on Thursday, then did my plane thing until 10:30pm, when I got home.
Woke up on Friiday, worked from home, got out of work an hour early to go to a wedding. Left the wedding and continued to Rhode Island to my grandmother's house, arriving at about midnight. Woke up on Saturday, left right away to visit my great grandmother, whose health is failing, and spent three hours there. Went from there to my friend's house, where I helped her put together and run a party for a dozen people. Spent the night.
Left he house on Sunday to drive from RI, through CT, and into New York to pick up
kayden_eidyak from the airport. Drove around looking at various nearby fairs and art festivals as her plane had mechanical difficulties, a fuel shortage, and weather delays. Ended in a crescendo as I realized that I was at the wrong airport, then drove almost two hours to Hartford, CT to pick her up in the pouring rain. Got home cranky and unhappy and wanting bed. Chose not to do the topic post on time -- sorry about that.
Got up, ate breakfast, worked all day, went grocery shopping (I had nothing left because of the trip), and cooked for Kayden and my best friend Derek, who are spending the night. Did my topic post, doing the chatter now, then bed. Dear God yes bed.
What on earth am I going to do when I have kids? I mean -- KIDS.
Of course, some of you DO have kids. Or are pursuing their master's. Or have harder jobs than I do. Or do it all with a terminal illness. Or are accomplishing something more incredible. Or are like my wife
stargazerkisses, who gets up two hours before me to do the dishes, or who slept for 3 hours last night because she was with me on this charade and still had to do her lesson planning.
The sad thing is that while this is more busy than I usually am, it's not MUCH more busy than I usually am. Especially lately. Some of my friends (and family) are probably pretty sure I'm dead.
But when I tell a story like this, there's always someone who has one to top me.
Are you all this busy? Are you busier? What do you do to maintain a life and/or personality when you're always "on"?
