I read somewhere that the foremost horse-riding sacbut player was a personal friend of Dürer's; his tone was alleged to be close to a human voice. Must have had quite the talent, because those early horns sound pretty tinny to modern ears. :)

Very cool!

I took a picture of one of the horns for you. Will have to get it off the camera when I get home tonight.

I've seen those horns at the MFA before. If I am ever convicted of a criminal offense, it will be for breaking into that music room and jazzing around with a priceless sacbut. ;-)

I wanna see the sacbut. Being a trumpet player enamored of the hunt, I love horns. (Then again, I am that weirdo that decided that my General Patton GI Joe action figure should have a cavalry bugle in his display.)

The Ori Gersht exhibit was a bit of a mixed bag. The first couple of photos didn’t really do much for me.
That was my feeling on it as well!

And I'm disappointed the website said "send your favorite postcard!" and they offer a selection of..six.

Yeah, I went to the Web site to check out the postcards you could mail and was similarly disappointed. =(

There's some lovely embroidered pieces in the MFA collection. I need to go see them in person sometime.

If you decide to make the trek up North, let me know and we can try to meet up! I love the MFA.

When I read posts like this, I hope that Boston billet opens up. I want to go to the museums and reenactment events.

So many things that have me so envious. I love Durer prints with dogs in them. (doggie..doggie...dogie) I love WWII advertising, propaganda and post cards and of course anything to do with hunting dogs or hunting.

While the manners of the South are nice, I am SO TIRED of hearing about what Regiment of the Civil War Army somebodies great great Grand Daddy fought in when they hear me talk. I tell them my great great Grandfather fought in the 17th Maine Infantry and 1st Maine Heavy Artillery during the Civil War.

I just can't get excited about the Civil War. i think it's one of the low points in our country's history, no matter which side you were on.

I've been continually delighted with the MFA the past couple of years. I thought I was getting bored with their collections, but apparently not!
