New Guy again

We had our monthly department meeting today. And because New Guy has been asking a lot of questions, and because our doc mangles terminology, at the end the meeting I led a little discussion about standardizing terminology for what we call things in the user interface. I am a user...and was a corporate user...and I know the difference. I also had to write documentation and it was helpful to use the correct terms when explaining the navigation.

That's good to know. Ammunition for the next time I have this discussion with him. Thank you for that.

I just find it to be an incredibly unprofessional reaction to being told that we're going to use an industry standard style guide. I consider following the corporate style to be one of the job requirements for being a technical writer. As in, if you're not following the style guide, you're not doing your job properly.
