Two hours?! That sounds crazy. My usual cycle is about 20-25 minutes. Even if that machine is super efficient, doubling or tripling the run time has got to waste zots!

I can't imagine having the washer going for 120 minutes, but there was more than one model that had a super long wash cycle. And then you still have to dry it! I'd be doing laundry all day!

The newer one my folks have takes much longer than the old clunker I use. I am curious what you find out about washers as I will need you be come winter and there is no way I ant a cycle as long as the one my parents use.

None of the store sites seem to mention how long the cycle time is, but it's part of Consumer Reports information from their testing. I've got a bunch of stuff I've got to buy this year (new washer/dryer, new mattress, new TV) so I sprung for a 1 year membership. But a lot of their information is public. I just checked, and I can't see nearly as much information from work as I can when I'm logged on at home. If you need to know something that's locked, just let me know. I can send you the info.

Don't knock it!! I have had front loaders for the last 12 or so years, and they take longer. 2 hours, 2.5 ... but they are more energy efficient; your clothes get WAY cleaner (I've had guests comment on that); you use less powder; and your clothes don't get worn down by that stupid central agitator. They're quiet, too, so you can run a load and go to bed, then chuck it in the dryer in the morning.

And yes, they have a "quick cycle" where you omit the pre-wash and extra rinse, and it gets done in 45 minutes. LG or Miele are the way to go -- the LG comes in an 8 kg load option, which means you can do a whole lot more laundry in a single load, saving energy again.

My MRW water tax is too high to waste that much water. And I am doing the house hold wash so it would take a day for all the loads. Might as well go to a laundry mat
