Doctor Visit

Went in for another blood draw this morning to check my cholesterol.

My blood pressure was 132/68. Not sure how to interpret that based on the chart. The systolic is a bit high, but the diastolic is a bit low? At any rate, I already know that I need to get back on the exercise wagon ( Read more... )

so the top number tells you how hard your heart has to push upon contraction to get blood around. That is on the higher side. The bottom number tells you the pressure in your vessels at rest when the heart is relaxing and filling. That number is actually more alarming if it's elevated. That being said 68 for a diastolic is very good. If you're taking B/P meds they might worry that it was low and you were bottoming out, but if that's your normal I'd say good job. Exercising and losing weight, lowering cholesterol etc will help your top number go down, but shouldn't cause your diastolic to bottom out...if that doesn't make sense I'll try again in the morning when I'm not over tired ;-)
