Crikey. Those figures really put the situation into perspective. :(
Indeed, not victimless.

I am spitting mad about the illegal downloads of my sister's movie. I can't even... *flappy hands of rage*

Amen, sister. I comment on every post I see that advertises "free" downloads, and then I unfollow the person who reblogged it.

I was once at a conference on transnational organized crime and smuggling in Central Asia, and spotted some of the people responsible for organizing (!) the conference in the market, buying rip-off DVDs. So I built that little fact into my statement to the conference. Much red-facedness ensued...

I love you. Seriously, that's awesome that you called them out in your conference statement.

But it's just another example of how pervasive the problem is!

Even though I rip movies to take clips (fair use) you'd be surprised how many Doctoral recipients I have to explain "theft" to...

Not really. Many of my TW peeps don't understand copyright and trademark usage at all, and it's part of our job. At the Mushroom Farm I had to point out that a couple of our download buttons were illegally using Microsoft trademarked images (the PDF image was universal/fair use, but the download the Excel button? Stolen.)

Wow, sorry it was pirated like that!
Can you get youtube to take it down?

Working on that now. I told my sister, but she's had problems with YouTube in the past and seems to have given up on fighting with their software. Unfortunately YouTube doesn't seem to have actual human support available, and since it's not MY copyright, I can't find a path to go through the online maze to report it. I'm trying to find time to call their phone number, but the internet says the average wait time is well over half an hour. *sighs*
