The problem is that that people who are the fanz are probably the same people that write incest stories and such for all their likes. The internet attracts the attention whores with the same old same old doing the same old...
I flat-out refuse to start any new shows with two white men in the lead. It's not the slash; it's the rampant misogyny (and racism) that went with it. PoI was the school of hard knocks for me...
So yeah. If I DID watch a show with two white dudes in leading roles, I'd stay far, far, FAR away from the fandom. (I don't even know if the show you're watching has two white dudes in leading roles, but I'm guessing it does, based on the early existence of m/m slash that ignores a canon gay character.)
The lead is a kickass multiracial woman, whose character I adore. And what I consider to be the "main" relationship on the show is completely platonic, the male lead refers to the female lead as "family" and "my sister." Which is a vibe that I really like and I think is all too rare on TV

Oh yeah, when I referenced misogyny and racism, I was absolutely referring to the fandom rather than the show. Person of Interest the show did pretty good (not perfect, but good) avoiding some potential major pitfalls in the writing. The fandom, on the other hand... UGH, literal nightmare territory.
Fandom is SO WEIRD about ignoring canon gay characters and relationships in favor of their imagined preferences. I don't care if people wanna slash characters, but when you're ignoring what's canon... And it happens on so many shows! I don't get it.
And yes, it even happened with PoI fandom, since you haven't been around to witness it. I'm gonna steal a tumblr phrase and say that Person of Interest fandom could be my supervillain origin story.

LOL!
Did you ever do the "opposite day" thing back when you were in a kid? Some days I feel like fandom is the place where it is "opposite day" every damned day.
Minor characters are the main characters. Super villains are the heroes. Characters that hate each other must be dating. Straight characters must be written as gay. Kickass women with careers must be turned into mommies who stay home and care for their children. Hard nosed men with commitment issues must be turned into sensitive new age guys who cook you dinner and want to cuddle.
I'm all for creativity, but I also wonder why so often the things that I love about a character or a show and look for in a fic is the thing that so many other people think needs to be changed in their fic?
Killjoys, new Canadian TV show that aired here in the States on the SciFi channel for a 10 episode summer season. Don't know if it's made it to your part of the world yet.

Incest stories is not one of the things I understand people wanting to explore in fiction. Not at all. Nope, just not going there.
