Sounds wonderful. I painted (part) of the garage. I felt so accomplished! Then I did lots of nothing =D
Have you ever read thegraytigress Avenger fic? She rather fancies Captain America and Iron Man whump! and she's almost exclusively gen (she does the occasional het but it's always been canon, ie Tony/Pepper). She's big on the friendship/family bonds amongst the Avengers. And they're LONG!
I read slash too sometimes but only if it isn't smut. I suppose my biggest problem w/ slash (and, honestly, a great deal of the het) is how ooc the characters often are and the speed w/ which the writers race to 4k words of explicit sex. /sigh Boring.
Oooh, thanks for the link! I'll read that this weekend. =D I haven't really done much snooping around over on FF.net. I've started to get very, very careful about the fanfic that I put in my brain. Because what has been seen cannot be unseen. (Damn Very Secret Diaries, which I love, but I cannot watch LOTR without hearing "Still not the King!" when Theoden is yelling at Aragorn in Two Towers...) If I'm careful about filtering and paying attention to the tags on A03, I can generally find things that I think I might like.
I've mostly been reading scifigrl47 over on A03. While she does write a lot of slash, it's mostly G to PG-13 rated. And sometimes takes 100 pages to get to a kiss, so it's mostly just damn good storytelling. This weekend I was reading stories by copperbadge, who I know is one of her friends (they've written stories with each other's characters and have conversations over on Tumblr). I sort of stumbled onto his stuff, because he was one of the few stories on the BAMF Peggy Carter tag.
Good on you for getting "the swap" done. When I finally gave in and bought bins for the costuming it actually freed up a lot of my closet space and made things easier to find. #YesAllWomen, OMG I need to stop reading the comments because the mansplaining *head spoldey*
I am trying to live to the UF**kening ideals. It's definitely making a difference. I think 90 percent of my problem is building it up in my head. So good on you!
I have spent WAY too much time the past couple of days reading the #YesAllWomen hashtag on Twitter. I'm all "sexism grrr" right now.
And thank you SO MUCH for posting about UnF*** Your Habitat back in April. It came at just the right time (before Visit From Dad) and I've been lurking their Tumblr for inspiration. It really is all about getting over my own procrastination. Yep, all in my head too!

I don't think she's on Ao3 though ... just ff.net: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/1264125/thegraytigress.
