Though the parade began late, it appeared to be off to a good start until the route along Pennsylvania Avenue became choked with tens of thousands of spectators

The really awful thing is that there is still a substantial subset of the population -- many of them women! -- who are in vocal and enthusiastic favor of repealing the Nineteenth Amendment. :-(
