On Gamble stepping down.

Apr 04, 2012 20:20

I am torn about this decision:

I think fandom is way to hard on Gamble (for sexist reasons, very often) and that she gets blamed for a lot of stuff that isn't her fault. Particularly by impossible to please Cas fans (I say this as a Cas fan myself). She's written some of my very favourite eps, including 7x17 most recently, and she's been around ( Read more... )

supernatural is making me stupid, fandom

Wait... why was Heart a bad episode? :(

I hate it with a burning passion, you probably don't want to unleash my rant.

It really just creeps me out from a gender perspective. It's contrived and awful and everyone in it is gross.

(On the bright side, I wrote femslash to fix it.)

... I wouldn't mind the rant if you want to unleash it. I actually liked the episode, Sam crying in the end and then Jensen crying for Jared! OMG all kinds of love! But it's always good to get out of my own head and see why other people might dislike it, a different perspective is never bad. :)

P.S. I'm gonna have to find this femslash you speak of!

Alright, the short version:
1) The whole thing was really contrived, and very obvious in its attempt to tug on my heart strings. i expect SPn to be a bit more subtle.
2) He slept with her and then he had his brother shoot her through the heart while she begged him to do it.
3) They barely tried to save her. Especially considering their reluctance to accept death in all other circumstances (esp. re: each other), it's icky. They could have chained her up on the full moon.
4) i don't like women tied to chairs while men make all their decisions for them, especially when it's a sexual partner.

The femslash is here.

oh, i hadn't heard this yet! i agree, it's sad that one of the few female showrunners is stepping down. does this mean that spn got renewed for another season?

No officially, but pretty much.

right--you wouldn't announce a change in showrunners for a show that only has a handful episodes left to air. i know cas fans haven't been too fond of this season, but i've enjoyed its basic samanddeanness of it all.

Yes, on all counts. Im super glad she's moving on, but I'm not going to dance in her grave, though I'm not going to blame people who rejoice, because from their perspectives she might have ruined one of the most gorgeous fictional characters ever. Lol @ disapproving note ;D I do that teachery shit too

Oh, and yes about Heart. The fact that they were so effing manipulative that they not only had Sam fuck this girl, but made her beg him to kill her to add to his boy pain. I wanted to napalm that episode ...how did I not know you wrote fix it fic. How freaking awesome.

The fic is here, but it's not your traditional fix-it.

Whoa, Sera's stepping down? When did we hear that? Where did we hear that? Does this mean S8 has been confirmed?

Apparently I need to...something. Read LJ more often? Something.

I loved her take on the show. I loved season 6 and 7 a heck of a lot more than 5. I am torn by this news. Soulless Sam was genius even though it could have wrapped up way better than it did. As a Castiel fan, i was personally satisfied. Season 6 and 7 is where i fell the most in love with him more than season 4 ever did and i definitely didn't love him in season 5. She treated him like an actual character and his amazing arc when he became God was just orgasmic. Although, that would be giving her too much credit just like blaming her would be because i'm 100% sure it was a team effort.

By the way, what you wrote is beautiful.
