But a lot of people just want to prove a point through a very misplaced superiority complex

Exactly. It's a shame that some people need to make themselves feel good about their fandom by making fun of someone else's. There's nothing wrong with being a simultaneous Twilight and SPN fan, but even if you aren't, there's no need to pick on other fans. SPN and Twilight fans aren't actually that different.

At the end we are all part of the same group and to the world we are crazy, because that's what they call us.

Yes.

I think the real problem here is that we want SPN to have the attention that deserves and Twilight gets a lot of it without any apparent good reason.

I think you're right that jealousy may be a part of it. I would understand that if all the hate was directed at the Vampire Diaries, because they're a show on the same network (though that hate should still be directed at the CW for their incompetence and not at VD fans). The thing is though, that Twilight is a bestselling book series and big-budget film adaptation. SPN and Twilight are in completely different realms of famous - there's no way SPN was ever going to be that big, so the bitterness seems misplaced.

True. I love Twilight(the books) not as much as i absolutely in-love with Harry Potter, but the Twilight books were entertaining and saved me from depression. And to be fair, The Cullens and Bella are very charming characters even with all their psychotic imperfections ( ... )

But just making fun of the series for the sake of making fun of it because everyone else is doing it and you think it makes you cool and more manly like a bunch of males are claiming, that is just pathetic.

It really is sad, isn't it? I'm genuinely hoping the show itself doesn't go this route. I like parodies in general, and SPN and its writers (do we know who's writing this episode?) have done clever pop culture paordy before.

Unfortunately, the episode synopsis sounds like it's mocking fans (the wussy vampire is luring in stupid girls as victims with his prettiness or something). I too would like SPN to take the high road, but given the wqay this episode is being marketed and received, I'm not optimistic.

i don't have anything to add, but i'd just like to say that i love having you on my flist for entries like this. well-reasoned, written, and poking holes in "acceptable" ways to mock fellow fangirls. :)

This is well written, and I agree. it's stupid to point to another fandom and say "those are the ones with lame characters that only dopes are crazy for."

I mean Harry Potter? Is about a little boy wizard with a thunderbolt on his forehead. SPN? Is the Hardy Boys in the Mystery Machine. Doctor Who? A reincarnated godling traveling through time in a phone booth. Twilight? Sparkly 300 yld vampire in celibate relationship with depressed teen. Any fandom can be looked at as stupid, and that includes religions. Human beings like stories, and we like to get involved in them. There's no point, other than choosing your own personal taste, in looking askance at what other people like.
