The Olympics!

I'm loving watching the Olympics. It's funny how I cheer for the Americans, but ultimately, I don't really care. They're just a celebration of humanity, of what humans can do with determination and dedication, the strength and courage and beauty we can achieve. It's amazing. And this is why I'm glad we didn't pull out of them. Well, that, and ( Read more... )

Oh my god, I feel like I can talk about Michael Phelps' swimming style all day.

My question is, when he turns, he dives deeper than everyone else, and is slow to surface, and yet he manages to surface BEFORE everyone.

Hmm, good point about his freestyle. I didn't notice that he was breathing with every stroke. I know his cycle is slower, but I thought that makes for faster swimming?

HE DEFIES LOGIC. I don't understand.

With the freestyle stroke, sometimes slower is better and sometimes faster. It really depends on the person. Usually, faster and longer is better, but if your fast strokes are really short, it's better to go a little slower. But he pauses!

And in his turns, he seems to be in a bad position, as you said, but even if he goes into it behind, he comes out like 3 yards ahead of everyone. He's got to be part fish. It doesn't make any sense otherwise. :P

why do you think the olympics should've been held elsewhere? i firmly believe china deserved to host these olympics. it signifies an international recognition of their industrialization, modernization, and post-cultural revolution humanitarian, environmentally conscious, and global-minded growth.

after spending my entire summer there, it is upsetting to see the american news repeatedly villainize the chinese government, granted it has its flaws, but the criticism greatly outweighs the praise. just look at how china is killing in the medal count and how much money, energy, and thought went into every imaginable aspect of the games.
