Softer crust?

I love baking bread in my bread machine. Though I admit to not having made much of late, but then I haven't baked much of late of any sort ( Read more... )

If I want a softer crust, when it comes out of the oven, I immediately brush it with melted butter.

If you do it *immediately* as you open the lid to take out the loaf, yes.

You can also just put in in a somewhat-vented plastic bag when it is warm- that softens up the crust nicely. I wouldn't close it up altogether because it does need to throw some dampness, but a loose bag with an opening has worked well for me.
