• Bread flour is expensive.  Skip the cost by purchasing Vital Wheat Gluten and adding that to all-purpose flour: 1 tsp. of gluten for every 1 cup of flour.

One of the first things to learn about starting up with a bread machine is that things go wrong. Sometimes things go very wrong. This is part of the process. I started with a recipe from Donna Rathmell German's "The Bread Machine Cookbook" and have been adapting it over the last few months. It makes a great sandwich loaf, great toast, and generally good bread to eat fresh. I eat it just quickly enough that I don't know how well it freezes ( Read more... )
