Last night I got upset and started to cry.  As soon as it began I had to remind myself I am only a 5 hour and 45 minute drive from home, not 22 hours.  I am staying with family in Boston for the short term and I have many more family and friends in the region.

It's not that I didn't get the promotion to less qualified people.  It's not that I realize I got six months in Florida before I can apply again.

It's the fact that I found out second hand.  Never got an email, nor a call from corporate.

A text message from a friend.

And still my inbox remains empty.

I hit a dog tonight while driving.  It had a collar and tags so it wasn't a stray.  I called the police snd they filed a report and will contact the owner.

I killed someones pet, buddy, companion and possibly only friend.  I know it's not my fault, it jumped in front of my vehicle and had no choice.

1100 miles away and I still can't escape the bullshit.

My good friend is battling cancer.  I lost my college buddy to cancer.  I watch my mother smoke and cough.  My sister does the same.  And I keep lighting up smoke after smoke.

This addiction... This crutch.

I see Anthony lose his hair.  I remember Jeff bald and pale.

Sitting here in Buffalo at my old bar with my old bartender.  We talked about my recent move and my unhappiness with it.

His response?  Legendary.

"Life is a gamble.  You think you went all in and lost.  But why do I see you holding all the chips?"

Bartenders are better than therapists.

I'm not afraid to say goodbye, and I'm sure as hell not afraid to start over.

With that said Fort Lauderdale is not going to be a long term venture.  Circumstances within this station dictate that the first chance I get I leave.

I applied for a position in Boston. I will do what I can to take the steps necessary to relocate there.

What I Like here:
The weather, the crew, the fast paced environment, the overtime availability.

What I do not like:
No paid days off other than vacation weeks due to beimg understaffed, some "friends", the traffic, the construction.

Short term I work and save money and be a good crewmember.  That way if the negatives out weigh the positives I leave.  ( Read more... )

I live in Fort Lauderdale now.  It feels... Normal.  Im good with that.  Let us see where this road takes me.
