And today we hit the road for Connecticut, for what might be my last visit to my grandfather. He's been up and down, in and out of the hospital all year. Tuesday was his 88th birthday, and there's not much confidence he'll reach 89. Since I'm usually so busy, I'm the only one in the family who hasn't seen him recently. Today, after my orchestra class (so, around 9:00 a.m.), I have to hit the road to the VMEA convention over at The Homestead, a 5-star resort built in 1759. It's out in the middle of the Appallachians, nestled in a little valley, built atop natural hot springs.
