So, about that whole internets-disappearing-for-weeks thing, ElJay. Yeah. I guess that was an overreaction. Because as soon as I got home last night, it was working again. Even though the cable hoor said it would be at least a week. Score ( Read more... )

Well, you are a conservative, I'd imagine. But no matter. My point wasn't that Michael Moore is cool (because I can totally agree with you regarding certain points of his suckiness). But rather, it was just a statement on the shittiness of the health insurance industry and how ridiculous my battles with them have become. I couldn't even fathom that anyone on earth would disagree that America's health care system is fucked up. Thassall. ;)

Well, I'm no social conservative. I think gay is OK and I've been a nekked model. I'm just into budgets. Budget, people!

And that is precisely what makes you NOT a neocon! Well, both those things, actually. I have plenty of respect for traditional conservatism. It's the most vocal of the conservative freak parade - the evangelical fundamentalists and war-mongering ubercapitalists, mostly - that I have a problem with. Not fiscal responsibility. :)

Yeah, I had no response whatsoever for that. It's funny though, because he happens to be my father's doctor too. And if my dad had EVER been on the receiving end of one of those rants, he'd never see the guy again. I'll have to tell him. ;)

You and I will never agree on our Middle East policies, I'm sure. So I won't go there. But I will say that you're not alone in feeling alienated by your party of affiliation. I have never considered myself a member of the Democratic Party and never will. For some of the same reasons that you choose not to identify as a GOPper (at least for the most part). I think we probably need a catchall Disenfranchised Party at this point.

Actually, no. Different doctor. Same practice though. The medical industry in this country is SUCH a racket.

I just have to say that most doctors are so incredibly one dimensional, too, because they have done nothing but study and practice medicine for their whole adult lives. My doc commented last week (while conversing over my having molds made for custom orthotics) that Shakespeare is an Old English author. Uhm, what well read person doesn't know that Shakespeare is a Renaissance author who wrote in Modern English??!! I mean, OK, my Bachelor's degree is in English lit, but isn't that something you learn in English 100?

See, this is why I staunchly believe we should treat our doctors as exactly what they are: well-educated mechanics. Seriously. Outside of the minority who are research scientists or on the cutting edge or perform incredibly delicate and skilled surgery all day long... there's no difference. They are self-important enough already without our culture collectively giving them such awe and reverence.

And maybe it's the booknerd in me talking (well, not maybe)? But WHO THE HELL WOULD LUMP SHAKESPEARE IN WITH CHAUCER!? Only a hack.
