So, about that whole internets-disappearing-for-weeks thing, ElJay. Yeah. I guess that was an overreaction. Because as soon as I got home last night, it was working again. Even though the cable hoor said it would be at least a week. Score ( Read more... )

This is the same asshole doc who made you wait for the IUD, right? Predictable.

Actually, no. Different doctor. Same practice though. The medical industry in this country is SUCH a racket.

I just have to say that most doctors are so incredibly one dimensional, too, because they have done nothing but study and practice medicine for their whole adult lives. My doc commented last week (while conversing over my having molds made for custom orthotics) that Shakespeare is an Old English author. Uhm, what well read person doesn't know that Shakespeare is a Renaissance author who wrote in Modern English??!! I mean, OK, my Bachelor's degree is in English lit, but isn't that something you learn in English 100?

See, this is why I staunchly believe we should treat our doctors as exactly what they are: well-educated mechanics. Seriously. Outside of the minority who are research scientists or on the cutting edge or perform incredibly delicate and skilled surgery all day long... there's no difference. They are self-important enough already without our culture collectively giving them such awe and reverence.

And maybe it's the booknerd in me talking (well, not maybe)? But WHO THE HELL WOULD LUMP SHAKESPEARE IN WITH CHAUCER!? Only a hack.

Chaucer is Middle English, but yeah, what you said : )

I actually have more respect for our Vet. And our Vet can tell us how much something is going to cost. When was the last time your doctor could give you that information?

I stand corrected. But then, I didn't major in literature, so no fair! ;)

You know, I feel the same way about vets! They typically have customer service skills that put virtually every doctor I've ever known to shame, for one thing. Plus, they have to know about a bunch of different species. That makes tinkering with the human machine look pretty simplistic.

And plus, their patients can't talk!
