So I guess I don't update this thing any more but this post seems important and maybe some of you still care so here's what I posted on Tumblr:

Last Thursday my boyfriend and I received an email asking if we were able to make it to [facility] on the 13th October to undergo training. This training would prepare us for the following week, where - ( Read more... )

Very best of luck! You are doing what not many would/will/are, not the least of which is leaving your family and friends, but I'm sure it will be very rewarding for you.

Seems silly to say, but take care of yourselves...

Thank you. It's happened very suddenly and I'm still pretty shell-shocked!

Do try to keep us updated if possible?

Thank you :)

I'm going to put most of my efforts into Facebook because my parents use that, but I'll put things on Tumblr too providing I can wrangle the supposedly existent wifi (I'm quite dubious myself, developing country and all). I don't know exactly how much I'll be allowed to say but it's a humanitarian effort so I imagine they won't be secretive, just careful with patient confidentiality and stuff (which, you know, fine). I doubt I'll be able to take my camera into the labs because of health reasons, and I'll definitely not be able to take it into the place I'm training in because that place blows up your car if you park it in the wrong place. I'll find out next week while training I guess.

I shall look forward to the few things I hear! Always remember how awesome you are and how proud we are. (Also that you have a giant science brain)

Good luck! This is enormously good work you're doing here, and you're very brave to be putting yourself out there like this. Stay safe and come home soon.

Thank you for your thoughts, and I will be doing my utmost to look after myself (namely, hiding under a mosquito net and reading lots of books whenever on down time)
