He is fascinated by Miranda, both professionally and personally. Finds it very hard to divorce the two when he's on a sort of landing party like this.
He wants to know more, again, in both ways. She seems horribly young to him, and horribly damaged. He worries about her being so nervous, and wonders what happened to make her quite like that. But she's obviously got her own strength, and her own way of coping with problems. Even if she does seem too jumpy to even sleep. <3 <3 <3
She makes him feel protective, in a non-creepy way. She's young, and nervous -- but she obviously doesn't actually need someone watching her 24/7.

Okay, Jim first.
One of the things I love about his relationship with Jim, in canon and in camp <3, is the dichotomy. He's older and (veeeery arguably) wiser than Jim in *some* ways, and sure as hell doesn't just roll over and do what Jim tells him. He's seen Jim as a bratty arrogant cadet. He's seen Jim as a womaniser (one of the better types of womaniser, obviously; his aim is for the woman to have at least as much fun as he's having, and he's always truthful about the level of commitment he's offering

Fascination! He loves samurai stories, especially as he shares a ship with Sulu, and meeting an actual one is so damn cool.
Ryuunosuke seems appalling young to him, and burdened by this task. But he also seems up to it. Kid's obviously got a lot of strength both physically and personally, even if he seems to need to unwind.
He's worried by just how wound up Ryuunosuke seems to be. But given that he noticed this while having something close to a breakdown himself, he's not entirely sure just how right he is.
He's sad for Ryuunosuke, as for quite a few of the others he's met at camp, because he doesn't seem to've had a 'normal' childhood. Though what's normal, of course.
Young and damaged, like too many of the people he's met at camp. :(
He's such a serious kid, and McCoy wants to see him play more. To see him cheerful, and not so horribly intent on bad things that've happened or bad things that may happen.

McCoy's seen enough trauma generally, and in camp now, to know that it's not easy to heal and Raidou will always be affected by what he's gone through. And by what he'll go through in the future, because McCoy knows his own universe is a helluva scary place and Raidou's universe is obviously just as bad.
He wants to support Raidou as much as he can, both personally and professionally. He's obviously a good kid, and even if he weren't, McCoy'd want to help.
