Urine trouble

The kitchen and the bathroom are the only two places in my apartment that aren't carpeted (both are tiled). This is one of a few reasons that I keep Jasmine's litterbox in the bathroom. She has a covered litterbox because she has a tendency (who knows why) to raise her backside as she urinates. The covered box only stops the worst of the mess ( Read more... )

When I had a cat, I just used a very tall Rubbermaid container. No cover, but the wall was so high, it prevented that kind of thing.

That's brilliant! Thanks! Did you cut a hole in one side so the cat could get in and out, or was it responsible for leaping in and out itself? I'm thinking a hole would be good for Jasmine. I don't know how I'd cut one in Rubbermaid though, except perhaps using a dremel tool.

Which would mean I'd have to go get a dremel tool. Darn. (:

My cat was able to jump into and out of the bin without a problem. Remember, if you cut a hole, you're increasing the chance that urine will get out.

Oh, I've got plenty of experience with that. (: But the harder it is to get into the litterbox, the less likely she is to use it. She seems to like going into the corners, rather than against the sides, so I don't think a hole in the side is too big a risk.

Any idea what I should be cutting it with? I don't mind getting Jasmine a dremel for her birthday, but if it's not the right tool for the job, I want to get that instead.
