I enjoyed the episode a lot, and absolutely loved the ending! So, so good. I'm a little bit meh about Katherine/Elijah, but everything Elena was GOLD.

Katherine/Elijah seems to have happened very quickly, and it's hard to figure out what corner to look at it from considering we haven't seen either of them for more than minutes since last season.

Am annoyed they put the hiatus now because I am back to being invested again... Which I guess was their plan, but dammit. Dammit.

I don't care for Damon. Damon caters to his bro and his bro caters to himself and Elena should build herself a fortress of bodies to protect herself from these lover boys.

PFFFFFFT I still maintain that the girl the Salvabros want to return her to doesn't exist, her family is dead she needs space she needs to put herself first.

LOOK THEY GAVE CAROLINE THINGS TO DO. AND IT WAS ALMOST CONFRONTING!!!! I don't even know how anyone dares to judge her actions and not be struct by lightning... unless Silas is god which okay. Silas the punisher of psychotic originals with abandonment issues. (where the fuck did they hide bonnie again?)

That is a fair assessment. I'm hoping this will be overturned by the season's end. I think a lot of how I feel about S4 as a whole and whether I, personally, can still enjoy aspects of the love triangle will depend on how they choose to end it and if all this negative behavior has indeed been purposeful.

Still, as much as I enjoy watching Emotionless Elena, I don't think I can support it lasting long-term, because while I think it is still the darkest parts of her, I don't think it's the full Elena (I won't say "real" Elena). While I hate the way Salvabros are acting, to some extent I do think Elena's own fear of presenting her "true" self pre-switch has made it difficult for them to figure out what even an Elena is. I'm hoping that's what they are leading up to.

Are people judging her? I felt she was pretty un-judgeable, considering it would be in her rights to not respond to any calls at all.

I loved that we finally got to see a bit of the world Katherine inhabits when she's not wreaking havoc in MF. Of course she would compel an entire town! I want to trust her, but I can't. I would so watch a spin off of this. Which reminds me, if The Originals is going to be somewhat like this episode I have hope. Usually spin offs that should have been awesome fail miserably and I'm still worried that will happen here too. That said, I wouldn't mind more of Elijah even if it's a sucky show. It seems like he's the happiest of the originals and the only one that actually managed to mature during a thousand years of living. And he's always so well dressed.

Damon... did what Damon does. He was incredibly predictable in this episode (but who wasn't)(Katherine kinda wasn't, but that's her thing so in a way, she was too).

I didn’t hate Stefan in this episode (progress!), although I did raise my eyebrows a bit about how Mr. Have I Shared How I Let the Third Sacrifice Happen was ragging Damon for letting Elena and Rebekah get the best of ( ... )

Heee. Forget The Originals! We'll just have a show where Katherine Pierce travels to different US cities and talks about eating and compelling the townsfolk.

I want Stefan to be with Rebekah though. They kind of work together. At least they both have an idealized view of how the world works. I would make buttons and pass out flyers for this endgame, yes ( ... )

My opinions on Elijah have always been “Yep, you’re a character,” so I was surprised how much I enjoyed having him back in this context, as an observer who harbors a fondness for Elena, but who is also not so slavishly devoted to his own fuzzy feelings about the “Old Elena” that he insists on behaving like an ignoramus poophead. (*cough* Salvatores *cough* Salvatores).
How do you just express all my feelings so much.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised/amused by Elena and the Salvadicks just all sitting around pleasantly (well…) discussing their conflicting interests, lol? Of course, the dudebros are still refusing to really hear her, so there’s that. But A++++ that Elena basically turns that around on them - since they insist on trying to rob her of her personhood, she quits the “I am who I am” approach and heaps all the blame for her actions on them. That’s pretty much what they want, right ( ... )

Same about Damon! Unexpectedly I recovered my sympathy for him again this episode, though for a slightly different reason than you.... He convinces himself later that he’s wrong, but that just goes to show that he’s actively going against his very instincts. He’s choosing to defer to Stefan instead because he’s convinced that what he himself feels is selfish and wrong."Oh, I really like this. Damon is trying to be ~good for Elena and do the right thing, and in his book Stefan does the right thing, so he's letting him lead. But there really isn't a right thing at this juncture, something that he knows but no longer trusts himself to accept ( ... )
