This was on one of the summer reading lists in...7th grade, I believe, but I read it in 6th. The editing/writing quality issues didn't really catch my eye back then and I remember actually reading this book and being glad the The Luckiest Girl in the World was on the 9th grade reading list. But reading this review: wow. Now I almost want to go back and read it again. I vaguely remember certain parts of the book (the way fuzz starts to grow and that creeps her out), but I don't remember a lot, and I'd like to read it as an adult to see how much my perceptions have changed.

BTW, you mentioned outdated information. This is, iirc, supposed to be fiction. I don't think it's really fair to have to update subsequent editions of a fiction book for updated information.

As someone who suffers from anorexia, I can say with full authority that this book inspired zero sympathy and was pure crap.

-snapped into starvation-mode by a remark from her brusque French ballet teacher? Check.

Ironically, that's what drove my mother to anorexia for... five years? And then bulimia for another three.
