Man, I went through a weird anorexia book phase in my early teens, and I was kind of obsessed with this book, and another one called Second Star to the Right.
Yeah, this book is not in good graces with at all. I've never read it but it offends me on a personal level already.
this ended up being the goddamn how-to manual. One of my friends was really obsessed with this book-- and Levenkron's other The Luckiest Girl in the World, about self-mutilation-- in late elementary school or middle school, and ended up with some substantial ED and self-mutilation behaviors in high school. I'm not naive enough to blame her issues on having merely read books about them-- I know the potential for the issues was always there to begin with, and that's probably what attracted her to these books in the first place-- but I do blame the books for planting full-formed ideas in her head and giving her information she could use to perpetuate her problems

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. I'm staying as far away from it as possible.
