I see your point, but when there are many values in a system (The U.S. was (1950s) supposed to have eighteen), if they clash, some might have to be chosen over others. I find the relatively short lists that can be derived from the sermon on the mount, the 8-fold path, and the Tao Te Ching remarkably simple and compelling. Mercy, moderation, and modesty may not be a complete list, but i will worry about others when i've worked on these for a while.
