Dear Mayor,

Nov 07, 2013 14:02

Oh, FER FUCK'S SAKE! There's ANOTHER video of Mayor Rob Ford in which he is a) drunk off his not-so-tiny ass, b) pretending to be a coked-out luchador, or c) taken over by a confused and angry alien parasite.

And then there is THIS equally embarrassing non-apology/response to the previous video.

Mayor Ford ( Read more... )

I've been watching this on Rachel Maddow and just amazed. Then again, right now we have an attorney general who is under investigation from a zillion places and can't produce evidence when asked for it and yet, he isn't going to lose his job.

Then again, we don't have him on camera ...

Ersh.

To you sweet Canadians from us sweet Utahans ...

Ew. Sorry you have to deal with it.

ARRRGGGHHH! The thing of it is that he can't be legally removed from office unless he is charged with a crime. Even the city council can't oust him. Luckily, he's not a supreme ruler or anything, so all that will happen until he sees the light is that NOTHING will get done at city hall. It's bad for the constituents but just fine for him.

I've always thought he was a terrible mayor, but this is sad. Though, selfishly, I wish he would step down/get help so that my husband can come home... this is absurd! You wouldn't believe how much work he's creating for journalists in this town.

Though I'm pretty sure it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I do think that City Hall can work around him to a fairly large degree... after all, they have been doing so for some time.

What I don't understand is... everyone is so focused on the crack smoking BUT no one has really said "hey, crack ISN'T a gateway drug - not at all - so just how far down the addiction rabbithole has he gone while trying to enact policy from the Mayor's office?"

I mean, my dad was a functioning alcoholic for years and managed to get lots of stuff done, but he was pretty much always half in the bag at any given moment. I don't want our politicians following that lead, quite frankly.

Sorry that this is messing with RJH's home time. Will he take time off around your delivery date?

Seriously! When we went to Marcel Dionne's restaurant, one of the rich hockey freaks said he didn't care if Ford did crack because "he was doing such a good job as mayor"! I believe I simply blinked several times. It didn't seem worth trying to disabuse him of this misconception since we clearly had no common ground for discussion. There are drugs, and then there are drugs. Alcohol, for instance, is a powerful drug which can be very addictive for some people. I've been reading that apparently there are some myths about crack - and that it's sort of the same. Some people become very addicted, but it's not a given. Nonetheless, even if he isn't a crack addict, and even if we suspend disbelief and suppose he "tried it once", it's still the sort of hard drug not readily available. (And frankly, if he were a habitual user, we could expect him to say "he tried it once"... so while it's not impossible, it's hardly convincing). It isn't pot. It's not something people tend to stumble upon and try for a lark, when drunk. People access it ( ... )
