Dear Mayor,

Nov 07, 2013 14:02

Oh, FER FUCK'S SAKE! There's ANOTHER video of Mayor Rob Ford in which he is a) drunk off his not-so-tiny ass, b) pretending to be a coked-out luchador, or c) taken over by a confused and angry alien parasite.

And then there is THIS equally embarrassing non-apology/response to the previous video.

Mayor Ford ( Read more... )

Seriously! When we went to Marcel Dionne's restaurant, one of the rich hockey freaks said he didn't care if Ford did crack because "he was doing such a good job as mayor"! I believe I simply blinked several times. It didn't seem worth trying to disabuse him of this misconception since we clearly had no common ground for discussion. There are drugs, and then there are drugs. Alcohol, for instance, is a powerful drug which can be very addictive for some people. I've been reading that apparently there are some myths about crack - and that it's sort of the same. Some people become very addicted, but it's not a given. Nonetheless, even if he isn't a crack addict, and even if we suspend disbelief and suppose he "tried it once", it's still the sort of hard drug not readily available. (And frankly, if he were a habitual user, we could expect him to say "he tried it once"... so while it's not impossible, it's hardly convincing). It isn't pot. It's not something people tend to stumble upon and try for a lark, when drunk. People access it through some hardcore, violent, gang-related dealers, and these are the people with whom he spends his time (while on the City's payroll). Specific individuals with whom he has been photographed and recorded have been murdered, charged with violent crimes, charged with extortion, charged with uttering death threats and more. There's a reason the police and Crown have invested so much money into this investigation and it isn't because the mayor indulged in an illicit drug once when he was drunk. I think there's ample evidence that at minimum, he has a serious drinking problem which has been going on for years - long before he was mayor. He's been charged with a DUI, thrown out of hockey games for being drunk, beligerent and threatening, and has a long history of domestic disturbances (some of which have clear connections to both drugs and alcohol). I suspect he has been a moreorless functioning alcoholic, who appears to have slipped into not really functioning at all.

I think people are innocent until proven guilty, but that it's okay to demand more of our leaders. He's the 'Chief Magistrate' and has direct influence on police funding and so forth. Upholding the law is sort of part of his job.

The paper knew that an arrest of his friend was imminent a good month in advance, so this nonsense has been taking a lot of his time for a lot of the fall. Luckily however, since they don't really have money to pay proper overtime, they were happy to grant him 'off the book' time off. From the moment we go to the hospital, he gets three weeks (since he's clearly worked at least 3 weeks of overtime). With any luck, if the baby is on time or a wee bit late that will stretch through to Christmas. But, I'm full term as of Sunday, so anything could happen.

No! OMG I never thought this would be so hard. I think we'll have to specifically schedule a debate this weekend. ;)

LOL! For some reason my mind went and conjured up a scene from Storage Wars, complete with haggling and strange posturing...

"Do I hear Nicolas? Nicolas, for $500? Nick? Nick?"

"Peter, for $600!"

"Awww, SNAP! Outbid by a PETER!"

"Does that mean yer out?"

"I'm out. He can have his Peter..."

"I have Peter for $600... $650 anyone? $650? Perhaps Benjamin for $650?"

XD
