In reference to today's post (but I wasn't sure what was locked and what wasn't and didn't want to post a possible locked topic on an unlocked post):
If you are indeed swinging manic, it's probably NOT the best time to be making a decision about tattoos. Also, you just got your ears double-pierced. Jumping on the body mod bandwagon with gusto might be a symptom of you mania, and you might want to be sure your are stable (and are comfortable with your decision) before having yourself inked, because the tattoo will still be there no matter your mood, and you might not like it when you come down.
Sorry if this is irrelevant and you've already thought it all through, but it was very striking that you had mentioned being intermittently manic and suddenly wanting to go through with a tattoo against your husband's preferences when you really haven't mentioned it at all recently. As a friend, I kind of had to mention that, even if I sound like a prude.
It's not irrelevant, and you have a good point. The ear thing was a combination of me wanting to do it for literally years and finally--possibly due to the hypomania--saying "Oh, eff this, let's just get it done."
The tattoo thing is also something I've wanted for years. It is likely that being hypomanic at this point is pushing me to want it more than I would have otherwise, but this isn't just me saying "oh, I want another tattoo". I've wanted an elephant for years, ever since I started collecting them.
At this point it's kind of moot because I don't have an artist I know or trust in the area, and Morgan and I still have to agree on it first. But I'm still looking into it.
That was kind of like how it sounded from here, that you were being pushed by mania into doing things that always sounded sort of cool but you wouldn't actually do if you weren't manic. Which is why I said something because piercings can be taken out, but a tattoo doesn't entirely go away, even with laser removal.
If you still want the tattoo when you aren't manic, go for it, but I'd rethink the location, if only because most formal formal type non-tattoo things are the same things that might require your hair up. Like a fancy business meeting or the infamous bridesmaid up do. Events that show off your back (formal dress) often show off your neck too.
Meh. I work in IT, no one cares if my hair is blue or if I'm covered in ink. I don't mind showing off a tattoo if it's well done.
The one I currently have now is on my right ankle, and I sometimes forget about it until it's summer and I'm wearing capris. While the design, in retrospect, is not necessarily something I would do again, the memory of getting it and the time I had with friends while doing it is completely worth the kittycat now. (Also, he's kind of cute.)
