Sometimes parts of bandom really disgust me. Like, I am actually ashamed to be connected to large sections of the fandom right now. I have two gripes, both connected, and both of them make me really angry and saddened

I've cut part of it to reduce what people have to scroll past. Hope that suits you okay. :)
Nodding is a totally acceptable participation to everyone's reactions to this whole thing. It'd normally be mine too, except the whole thing just wound me up so much it was either rant in LJ or to my flatmate who doesn't even know who PWentz is and so wouldn't care at all.
I am always happy to rant and rant, so you're welcome! I just get so frustrated at the way it seems to be the mission of so many people in this fandom to hunt out the tiniest speck of not-so-shiny and turn it into the end of the world.
Also, it's good to know it's not just me sitting here going WTF at the whole thing. I don't feel as crazy now! So thanks!
BECCA YOU ARE CORRECT AND I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU SO. ♥
I was pretty much nodding the entire time I was reading this entry. Also, I love your analogies. YOU'RE LIKE PATRICK WITH ALL YOUR ANALOGY MAKING. Which is a good thing.
I can't help my analogies! It's like a disease! I keep wanting to be all 'fandom is like Patrick's hat collection, some parts of it are really, really awesome and should be worn all the time, and others should be burnt in a fiery blaze' or something. Help me think up an analogy for Pete Wentz, other than 'like all of Ryan and Patrick and Gabe and Cash and Travie's wet dreams, all rolled up inside girl jeans and a horrificly ugly jacket'
I am so ut of the loop on this so don't have much of an opinion. i wish i could give one. from what i've read (basically from your post tbh) american fans are lucky that they get all the tours they do... and to feel entitled is just stupid. i honestly feel bad that other countries don't get the bands as much as we do here, to travel 1, 2 or even 5 hours isn' such a hard ship!! to fly to see a band isn't crazy and it's something i have and would do again in a heartbeat.
most warmup bands are utter crap, but necessary... that's how bands get started people!! thats how all the bands we like got started. empires is still that band, and if i had let openeing acts put me off i wouldn't have seen the cab being adorable twice!
okay, i'm not sure if that made sense in relation to your post. i hope so!
i am ediditing to say, the us tour... i don't even know if i'm going! it wouldn't be the same seeing this band without you guys here! (oh, and to change my icon :P)
God, Vicki, it just makes me sad that people have to spoil this thing so many of us love and live for.

That is so brilliantly put and I completely agree.
And oh man, I didn't check the tour dates- are they coming near you at all? You should go and see them! I wish I had a disposable income and could fly out to see them with you. Cardiff is going to be so fucking weird, without having you at the barrier next to me, you know? I kinda got used to it last year.
Iknow right. Way to put a bad taste on what we love folks :(
There's a date in columbus I could go to, but id be going alone (noone iknow likes these bands). Icould get a seated ticket though near the front I guess, avoid the crush of the barrier. If there's no seats I probably won't go, queuings bo fun without friends to complain with. I got used to going to see these amazing guys with you too.
I just felt surprised by the fact that most people didn't seem happy at all about the tour in itself. like nothing that band does could be enough.
sometimes i think people are too good consumers, and because they have bought CDs, gone to shows, bought merch, etc, they are thus the biggest fans (read: consumers) so the band is now somehow under an obligation to give something back to them (in addition to the music, of course).
It's like people have to have something to complain about or something. I mean, people are bitching about Pete saying it might be awhile til the next tour. He just had a baby for christ's sake. Let the man have a life for awhile. Let them all rest.
I agree with you how people seem to think being the 'biggest fans' (as per your definition up there) makes them entitled to stuff.
I don't know, it just makes me think of you, and where you live, and how far you'd have to travel to a lot of gigs, and how unappreciative people are that they only have to go to the next city over.
I would pretty much give anything to see them, but--- *shrugs* I would try to get tickets if they would even go to Estonia or Sweden, you know? But other than that, as long as I'm living here, I'm not ready to pay to go see them In Belgium (even though now that I do think about it, I totally might, since I could visit my friend in the Hague at the same time! *g*) or in Germany.
I'm just happy people I know are getting to see them, you know? :)
I'm so pleased people are getting to go too. I count myself as incredibly lucky that I can wrangle a trip to a different country with people who're willing to keep me company on the drive and without it costing a fortune.
For the record, if they ever play up here in Scotland again, and you fancy seeing the band and Scotland (since I think you said you'd really like to visit one day?) you're always more than welcome to come and stay. <3
