Last night Cornell University hosted a screening of Brokeback Mountain, opens 9 December. One of the producers is a Cornell alum, so maybe that's how we got a sneak peak at the movie. I just returned from a screening of WAL-MART: The high cost of low wages. I wasn't surprised by anything that this movie documented, because I'd heard it all. But I was apalled. The bottom-line for Wal-Mart is its shareholders. (Sound familiar, Enron?) I definitely recommend the movie when it's in your area. And I'm firmly recommitted to patroning ( Read more... )

My friend poincare432 visited from Boston this weekend. For him, he visited for Columbus Day vacation. For us Cornellians, he visited for Fall Break. I had a fun and bittersweet time hanging out with someone who's moved away. I'd prefer to keep friends and family close all the time.

Last night, I saw Corpse Bride, Tim Burton's latest. It was great. Some things that stood out. The soundtrack was very good, but the singing was pretty bad. The world of the living was mostly in shades of grey, whereas the world of the dead was very colorful; interesting idea. Victor's mom's bust with its life-like movement.
