2013 - the final tally

Jan 01, 2014 10:33

So my Goodreads total and the total I am presenting here do not match. Again. According to GR, I read 115 books in 2013. My list here tallies 135. That's 20 books that I didn't include on GR for one reason or another - either it was a book that I just didn't consider "worthy" of counting towards my challenge or it was a book that I read for a ( Read more... )

OMG, I *love* your organizational skills. :-)

I finished book 103 yesterday morning. Sadly, I hit that slump mid-year where I stopped writing reviews of all the books I read, but I kept up with an Excel spreadsheet. But maybe I'll still go through and write up a post about the books I loved the most, and the books that I finished just to be able to say "I *hated* this book!" LOL!

Thank you! It's nice to have my anal-retentive, obsessive-compulsive tendencies appreciated. *snickers*

I totally sucked at reviews this year - I can't even claim a mid-year slump because I never even got off the starting block. Do hope you'll write a highlights post - I love knowing what books everyone else loved/hated. Although it can be hell on my TBR list. ;)

Holy mackerel. I'm gonna have to print this list out again to properly cope with it and ask coherent questions.

But you make a great point about re-reads on GR. It seems like such an obvious screw-up, like, isn't re-reading a fundamental reading behavior? Don't you sometimes want to know about some books exactly how many times you've read them? And I'm guessing it messes like hell with your yearly tallies. Weird.

This absolutely! Don't you sometimes want to know about some books exactly how many times you've read them? I wish GR would help me out here. ;)

I only found out by accident that GR removes a book from a previous year's tally when you re-read it and set a new "read" date. It totally sucks because if I really like a book, it is practically guaranteed that I will read it more than once. Maybe 2014 will be my year of lobbying GR to do something about this.

I'm honoured that you'd consider printing out my entire list. If you want to give yourself a break, you could always wait for my highlights post. It will be much more manageable. ;)

Impressive tally! I managed 10 books this year...

And you read three of mine! :)

Have a great reading year in 2014.

Thank you. I'm lucky to be a fast reader - and to not have a working television to distract me.

I'm very curious to know how you found your way to my list. Especially since Broken Empire was my favourite fantasy series of 2013 but I haven't even posted that bit yet. You don't happen to have hitherto unsuspected psychic powers, do you?

If you're at all interested in my rambling thoughts on Broken Empire, I'll be posting my 2013 highlights in a matter of days. You'd be most welcome.

Hope 2014 is a great reading year for you as well.

Mmm, excellent list, excellent list! I am very glad to see you read so much Terry Pratchett this year (including "Good Omens", one of my favorites) and also Patrick Rothfuss. I LOVED "The Name of the Wind", loved "The Wise Man's Fear" only slightly less, and am very curious how he plans to wrap up that trilogy (and where it ends up stretching into a quartet). I follow Rothfuss on GR, he posts some interesting book reviews. Also, was this your first reading of "The Westing Game"? That was the first mystery I ever read, I still have an extreme fondness for it ( ... )

Thank you for the list approval! ;) I thoroughly enjoyed all the PTerry I read this year. I've decided that I won't try to read the entire Discworld series as fast as I can but instead save them up for when I'm in dire need of a laugh. It was in such a moment that I remembered my partner has Good Omens and got it down from the shelf. Best medicine I can think of.

That's really interesting that The Westing Game is one of your favourites. I read it because it was one of Oddmonster's favs as well and she recc'd it to me at one point. I really enjoyed it and for a "kids" book found it darn hard to figure out the mystery.

I think you'll love Skellig and after that you totally have to read the companion book My Name is Mina because it's one of those typographically unique books and I need to own it. ;)

I have read the entire Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series and I found it a real page-turner. But I don't think it's your cup of tea. There is a LOT of graphic violence, quite a bit of it sexual, and it's pretty hard going at times. There ( ... )

I will definitely be upping "Skellig" on the to-read list with your recommendation. I probably won't read "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" I guess... you are not the first person who has said they are good but probably not good for me.

Bummer about "Death Comes to Pemperley", it looked like an interesting set up.
