"If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution." - Jana

I have been hesitant to write about this because I have no desire to upset anyone or to be told that I am racist, unthinking, anti-Mexican, anti-Latino, or anything else. But because it has been on my mind so much, I have decided to write about it and see what happens.

The story goes like this: )

jana, daily life, politics

What has the world come to when it can't laugh at itself?

People are sometimes too literal. They can't look past the words to see the meaning in them; they listen, but do not hear.

*offers a hug* I'm sorry that your friends weren't able to understand that the song is a parody. It's sad when someone lets something like this ruin a friendship.

Those people seem so silly. How sad. Unfortunately, I've heard a lot about incidents like this, especially in my local activist community. Part of being multicultural is being self-aware, and part of being self-aware in an environment of people with various backgrounds is being able to discuss differences and concerns. Maybe later these people will cool down and remember this, and come to you like grown ups should.
