Meta: The Most Pointless Romance Since Twilight

Jan 23, 2011 20:08

*Weeks later, I deliver promised meta. At this rate, my next fanfic will show up sometime next year.

The Cloud Minders. Het city! Spock actually shows genuine interest in a woman! Kirk holds a woman in his arms! Is this the mirrorverse? Oh, but like the city in the clouds, it seems to be all an illusion. Seriously though, when I watched this a ( Read more... )

meta, their love is oh so canon, boldly slashing where i've never slashed, space husbands, writing, completely heterosexual, this is a disastuh, 40 years too late episode reaction

This is absolutely beautiful. And succinct.

A work of art, one might say.

Oh trust me, it doesn't take anything away because there's not much to take away. This was one of the last episodes I saw on my first run through and there's a good reason no one really talks about it. I do like the Troglyte brown-haired girl that wrestles with Kirk because she has some character, but overall it's an old and overused plot that's already been on the show a couple of times before.

I remember this episode being the first I ever watched for all the failtastic reasons you listed above. What really weirded me out though was how Kirk and Spock both nearly hooked up with chicks, but in a totally not sexy way? It just seemed like a really lame attempt at making each other jealous. I mean, your gay is seeeeeriously showing ya'll. Let's try for some subtlety?

It really is like they're playing het chicken, trying to make the other jealous and upping the ante every time they're on screen. This is probably the most unintentionally gay episode, especially considering the writers and directors, so I entire play Shatnoy. God I love 'em. :D

I read fic about this episode before I saw the actual episode, so it kind of...I'm gonna say 'colored' the way I watched it when I finally got around to watching the episode. So now, when I think about it, I just imagine K/S making out instead of anything else important :)

Man, if only I had read fic before some of the more horrible episodes. There is one fic I read that gave a personality and backstory to the cat in Assignment: Earth, and as that's my least favorite episode ever, it would have been interesting if I had read the story before watching the episode because I may have liked it better and got distracted.
