Requiem for Methuselah: In which a single slash scene can make it worth watching a shitty episode

Apr 06, 2010 21:23

Before I start in, if you're a big fan of both Star Trek and satire, there was this awesome episode parody written for this episode and I just had to physically scan and share with you guys. It's called Requiem for a Hack. It had me laughing my freaking ass off.

I subjected myself once again to the episode Requiem for Methuselah. I had only seen ( Read more... )

slash, meta, their love is oh so canon, tos, space husbands, 40 years too late episode reaction

makes me wonder how the eff people can't see the slash.

Well, you have people like my mom. She doesn't want to think of them in 'that' way because the idea of them liking each other 'like that' is icky and gross. :/

I definitely know people like that. I honestly think my own mom is just innocent and doesn't quite get that there are homosexuals in the world :P but my sister is kind of a joking 'they are so gay for each other type, which at least she sees it. To those like your mom, well, there's just no helping wanting to be blind. :) Plus, it doesn't mean that they aren't 'like that', just that she chooses to remain in 'just good buddies' land.

Ooh, now you've got me thinking, I likey. :D

I think that it's definitely a case of good intentions, because why be jealous? Unlike in City on the Edge of Forever, Spock didn't really display a lot of jealousy in this episode, which may be a reason why he was motivated to wipe Kirk's memory, because they only knew Rayna for a few hours in comparison to a few days, and she wasn't even a human, but that isn't the biggest reason at all.

It's so against Spock's nature that it's not even funny. kaiidth, what is, is, is an ingrained concept in Vulcan philosophy, and this is the exact opposite. Spock is changing what is, and I think Spock has three reasons to wipe Kirk's memory:

1.) Kirk specifically said, 'I wish I could forget her.'
2.) Spock most likely wishes he himself could forget as easily.
3.) Based on numbers 1 and 2, Spock is in love with Kirk and that makes him do desperate and crazy things, like jump in the way of darts and risk the ship to get Kirk back.

My theory on why Spock left to complete the kolinahr is that he began ( ... )

Oh I love it now! When I first watched it, it was like my second or third episode, and so I kind of passed over it and didn't pay attention to it, mostly because I wasn't used to the show, if that makes any sense. I kept thinking for months that that it wasn't good, but then I went back and watched it and good lord, it was pretty damn good! I'm starting to do this with more episodes, because now I know the characters more and I see things I didn't see then. It's quite exciting. :D

And LOL, I still have gifs from your post. My favorite of all time, OF ALL TIME:

Just when I think they don't get slashier...HOLY SHIT THAT WAS SO GODDAMNED SLASHTASTIC HOW CONSPICUOUS WAS THAT I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE IT. *gasp gasp pant*

Well then. My life is forever changed once again by K/S.

BAD FANGIRL, TO YOUR BUNK!

Lol, it's not really that amazing, just the last scene. God these two are so slashy, I can't even. I promised myself that if I get finished with a fic and a ship wars fanvid I'd gather up all the best slash scenes together, which, even if I only include the major ones and not all the more subtle ones, it'd still probably be two or three youtube-sized videos worth.

Also, I'm really curious about the music thing now, and I'm totally keeping my eyes (ears?) peeled for more scenes with strategic Slash Violins. I mean, it'd be different if, like, Kirk and McCoy or Spock and McCoy scenes had that kind of music, but nope, it's pretty much limited to the Dames of the Hour and K/S. I WONDER WHY.

OKAY OKAY I'M GETTIN' I'M GETTIN'.

I've just known since almost the beginning that this one was supposed to be one of the more notorious ones, but I hadn't bothered to look it up yet. But if it's going to be one that keeps me frowning until the very end then I'm in no rush. You'd have to like, make separate vids entirely for the series then the films.

THOSE BASTARDS THOSE CLEVER BASTARDS. I MEAN, WHOA, THAT ROMANTIC MUSIC WASN'T SUPPOSED TO GO THERE. <3

Or WAS it supposed to be there. :P Come on, no way could that many people be that damn naive in the 60's.

The worst episode is - bar none - Spock's Brain. I'm feeling nauseous just thinking about it.

But yes, the "forget" scene is slashy goodness! :-)

You know, I don't totally hate Spock's brain. But maybe it's because I secretly love ridiculous crack. It's just so BAD that it's good, simply because you can laugh at it so much. I sat and counted, and they say the word 'brain' 33 TIMES. The worst episode for me was probably either Let This Be Your Last Battlefield or Assignment: Earth. God I hated the latter one. :/

33 times??? ARGH!! Is Assignment: Earth the Nazi one? I forget ...

LMAO about your "blow my mind" icon!

Late reply is late! :P Assignment: Earth is the retarded one in which they meet Gary 7 and go back in time AGAIN to stop a ship from launching or some shit, I forget. :/ The Nazi one is Patterns of Force, and besides being amusing as all hell ("We'll make a human of you yet, Mr. Spock." "I hope not."), it features fucking BDSM.
