I didn't start out seeing all the ways the song choice could be painful; my initial thought process was "JOHNNY CASH+ HOTCH= FUN AND PROFIT." But as I was writing the story, and figuring out how to weave in the lyrics, it got much more "ow." And if I do say it myself, my favorite bit is the rest of the team watching Dark!Hotch coming out in the safety of the song.

Oh, this was great. Hotch and Johnny Cash are an excellent pairing. So much nuance, both in the song and in Hotch's performance. The Lord of Chaos didn't quite know what he had gotten himself into. I really enjoyed this!

There are so many Johnny Cash songs...well, a) on my iPod, so b) that remind me of Hotch. I did a song-fic a couple years ago to "Man In Black". The one that reminds me of Hotch a lot these days is his cover of "I See A Darkness", on American III. But there's this live alternate version of "Boy" floating out there, and that particular version really struck a metaphysical cord. It's the right mix of rough and hopeful, dark and funny for Hotch, and I discovered new bits of nuance as I was writing.

And yes: srsly, Dave needs to not mess with the Unit Chief so much. Because Hotch is surely a formidable foe.

I've wanted to write a "Hotch sings karaoke" fic for literally years. But I could never figure out how to do it, because it needed to be a song and situation where he remained essentially him. And doing it a) for his musical weak spot, and b) as basically a morale booster for the team, just made it click in my head.

Adorable!Dave: because sometimes a best friend's job is to sow a little stress-relieving chaos in your life. And it's a cycle of playful revenge between them.
