Tosh is walking home after a long day at work. She's actually going to sleep in her own bed tonight and planning to enjoy it. It's been too long since she had a chance to get a full nights sleep. She's checking her hand held, glancing up only to make sure she didn't trip or run into anyone. It's late evening and there isn't anyone else on the

This is not, as it turns out, an uncommon occurrence. Sure, she might have been getting started a little early on this particular night, but there was a club, and a behemoth, and a trivia contest, and a drinking game, and who would have thought that so many cultivars of inedible mushroom were subject to small mutations that rendered them edible when grown in regions with a high incidence of Rift energy? The More You Know!
Dmitri has not, it should be said, sampled any of these mushrooms, though a few were offered. She took a rain check on those.
So she's walking on home, letting the cold air bite away at the edges of her tipsiness, when she sees a flash go off halfway down the street. Her first thought is that someone's taking pictures, but then she realizes that it's too bright for that, and there - that is the telltale sign of someone startled at their surroundings, weaving through the crowd ( ... )

She turns and stares at the other woman, leaning her head forward to get a better look.
"That tends to be true," Tosh said, "I'm not used to being the one out of the loop. Do you know anything I don't?" It's true too. She normally has all the answers, even ones that the rest of the team didn't. Suddenly, she doesn't know what was going on. It's an uncomfortable feeling, but she refuses to panic. That never helps anyone in her experience.

And then she gets a look at Tosh's face.
And then, she flips forward over the back of the bench.
She does a fairly neat somersault, landing in a crouch in front of the bus stop, staring directly at Tosh with an expression that says she wasn't really expecting to see a ghost on her way around the city tonight, but, you know, if ghosts are out to be seen, of course it would be this one, wouldn't it? There's a moment - and you may learn to be amazed at this some day, Tosh - when she's actually at a loss for words.
Then she blinks, shakes her head, and says "Toshiko Sato? Of London, recently of Cardiff, tech genius for the resident secret organization there, fond of computers, not so fond of clubbing sans sufficient or some-might-say-excessive motivation, she of the speaking softly and carrying a big technical stick, is that you, come waltzing through the Rift to land on my doorstep once again ( ... )

Tosh gasps at the sudden movement and her whole body tightens. Is she going to be attacked? She puts a hand to her holster, ready to fight if that's what it takes. Her eyes go wide as she listens to her life story, things no one knows, spill from a stranger's mouth.
She doesn't know how to answer. What good could lying do? This woman knows who she is already. The how completely beyond her.
"Yes," she said her voice tight and cracking.

Until recently, there was one in Chicago, her visor informs her. From what it can tell, this one is not quite the same. Either a different universe or just a bit older, younger, who knows. Either way, it's not the same Tosh returned from the dead.
Tosh is one of the few that went in the quake that she misses. They had something, together, something -- she doesn't quite know how to put it. It was a relationship of sorts, a good, professional relationship that had a deep bond.
So Tosh is stopped by Sailor Mercury herself, costume and all. She holds up one hand in the name of justice and says, "Sato-san, it is imperative that you come with me."

"How do you know my name?" Tosh asked a bit taken aback. She put a hand to her waist and feels for her gun. Since working with Torchwood she'd started carrying one, although the idea of scooting a Sailor Scout was almost amusing enough to make her laugh.

It's not the entire truth. It leaves out the part where she knew Tosh before. How she worked with her, here in Chicago. But considering this Tosh is slightly different, there's no way for her to explain that without sounding entirely insane. They'll get to that part later. At least Torchwood employees are familiar with Rifts.
"Either way, it is probably best that you make your way with me to the Kashtta," she adds. "It is a better place for us to talk than here."

"Yes, some things can't be said in the street, but the moment we get to Kashtta, I would like some answers," Tosh tells her and realizes she'd ready to fallow wherever. It's not like she has any other choice. She doesn't even know if her money is any good here and she doesn't have any identification.
