You can tell from the red in my eyes that I'm not right now at all...

Several people are having a Very Bad Day.

Nate is in the kitchen, sitting at the table in the back where he and Mat used to hide out before they got their wards. Sulking is not what he's doing. He's just... thinking. Very, very sulkily. There are several people he'd like to hurt now. Of course, considering one of those people is a First Angel, one ( Read more... )

Des doesn't so much Know Things as he's generally very good at figuring things out and somehow he figured out that Kara had fled the hotel. We don't question what brought him to that realization, just that he did eventually come to it and now he's standing just a few feet from the tree.

He left a note for Grace on his door, explaining where he went and if she feels anything strange, it's probably because of Kara. He's... Not really sure if another person's psychic distress being accidentally projected on him will register on her senses or not, so best to cover all the bases. He doesn't need her having a small panic attack on top of everything else.

"Who do I have to punch to make you come down?" He asks. It's mostly a joke, but with that hint of seriousness that suggests he really will punch someone if it'll make everything better. It's his thing. Apparently.

Kara doesn't move for a moment. Doesn't give even the slightest sense she noticed him, or that she's listening to anything he's going to say. She just keeps staring at some distant point far off, eyes unfocused.

After a minute or two, though, she looks down at him, and curls up a little tighter, wrapping her arms tightly around herself. "Go away."

For a moment, Des doesn't move. On one hand, if Kara tells him to do something, even he's smart enough to do it with no backtalking involved. He didn't try to go after Hart on his own, after all.

On the other hand, there's a fine line between stupidity and being stupidly protective and if Kara's hurting, then he damn well wants to know what's causing it.

He takes a tentative step forward. "Kara..."

No jokes, no games. Just utter seriousness. There's so much in that single utterance of her name- a question about what's wrong, an expression of concern, and more besides. Desmond Descant may be known for his mouth, but that doesn't mean he can't speak volumes with very little when he needs to.

Kara lets out a soft, discontent noise that could almost be a growl, and leans over a little further. She's not quite glaring at him, but she is watching him rather unhappily.

"Go away! It's not time yet." She's not angry at him. She wants to be, but she's not. Mostly, she's scared, and defensive, and very much not wanting to die, and while none of this is any rational basis for hiding from Des... Kara is rarely rational.

Rose has sneaked into the kitchen from the back door Mat had showed her oh, so long ago, when she stumbles across Nate. He looks...very unhappy. This is, well...in Rose's book, this just isn't okay with her and she wants to fix it. Finding herself at a loss, she just stops thinking and responds with a gut instinct. Snagging the apple pie that was sitting covered on the counter (which is what she was on her way to get in the first place) and a couple forks she walks over to the disgruntled looking angel.

Smiling tentatively at Nate, Rose lifts up the pie tin a bit. "I come in peace, and I bring pie. I can offer pie and company, or just pie and a hug and then I can get out of your face, your choice."

Yeah, we never said Rose was any good at this, but it does seem very in character as to how she'd handle an upset big brother.

Nate eyes her for a moment, tempted to just tell her to go away - nicely, of course - but it's Rose, and he can't bring himself to do that with her. It's an older brother thing.

"You can stay as long as you get the vanilla ice cream out of that fridge there," he says at length. It's not the most welcoming he could get, but hey, he's allowed to be grumpy. There's shit going on in his brother's life he can't fix, and that's a real problem for Nate.

Rose doesn't need to be asked twice and comes back with a giant thing of vanilla ice cream, and because she likes to outdo herself, she also has chocolate ice cream.

Taking a seat, she pushes the pie and ice cream towards the angel. "You look like you need it more then I do, so help yourself, sweetheart."

Curling up in the chair and her signature giant hoodie she just takes a good look at Nate. She doesn't like the stress lines that are starting to appear, or the tension lines.

So, in true little sister fashion she smiles at him and makes a heart with her hands. "If you want someone to randomly yell at, I'm very good at looking intimidated."

Nate considers both pie and ice cream, tilts his chair far back enough that he can snag a spoon from one of the drawers behind him, and lets the chair fall back forward on all fours again. A few massive scoops of ice cream go directly on the pie.

"I'm not gonna yell at you," he says after a moment of watching the ice cream melt on top of the pie. "You didn't do anything." Even if she had done something, he probably wouldn't yell at her much, because some people it's just impossible for him to yell at, but...

Amazingly enough, Mat is not looking for Nate. Not really. He just... wanted somewhere where people wouldn't come, to try to relax a little, so his instinct is to come to the kitchen.

And upon seeing Nate, he hardly even pauses before flopping down next to him and resting his head on Nate's shoulder.

It's been a long week. Month. Couple of months.

Nate doesn't bat an eye as Mat leans against him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and pulling him a little closer. A moment passes in silence, and then Nate shifts a little to glance at Mat - mostly just out of the corner of his eye.

"You alright?" There are a lot of questions packed into that one - is Sam alright, does Mat need anything, is there anything Nate can do - but mostly just... is he alright? Nate's feeling a little useless lately. Maybe more than a little.

Mat ponders the question for a moment. He... really doesn't know. No one's getting hurt right now, but once Romana wakes up, things will go to hell, plus he's afraid he might try to hit her when he sees her next, which could easily end with his neck being snapped.

He sighs. "I don't know."

Pause. Hug. "You?"

"Huh?" Nate pauses a moment to frown at Mat, like he honestly hadn't considered there might be any reason he wouldn't be okay. He's not, but that's a side effect of Mat not being okay. Nate's own personal happiness is a little less important to him. "Hey, you're the one with the ward who keeps getting almost killed. I'm fine."

Robin for his part is pacing hallways in the basement. Restless. Confused. A bundle of emotions and the narration thinks it is a miracle that he hasn't freaked out on anyone yet. Part of it may be the sudden appearance of his sister who he had thought was dead.

It's not that it makes him more calm. It just makes him more uncomfortable, keeps him more occupied, and leaves him feeling too lost to properly react to much of what's happened down here.

His wings aren't out. His wings are never out. Always denying what he is.

"Grace?" He says her name as if he's sighing in relief It's possible that he is. There are very few people he could stand being near right now. "How is she?"

Grace stops as she notices Robin, giving him a tight smile that's still much too stressed. "She's fine. I won't be able to keep her sedated much longer, because everything keeps wearing off, but... as long as she doesn't tear out her stitches once she's up, she'll be okay." It's as encouraging as she can get now. She hadn't seen Romana in full archangel mode until this happened - she'd never seen an archangel on the hunt at all before this happened - and it's kind of shaken her.

"Ah. Okay then. Good," he says, absently, scratching the back of his head as he glances down the hallway toward the medical room.

Then he turns his attention back to her, looking at her more closely now that he's got the basic question out of the way.

Robin reaches out to touch her arm, softly, raising his eyebrows. Obviously with as long as he's been with Romana, he's seen her in many frightening modes. He's not sure if any of those times could compete with what he heard about this last time, however, but it could just be exagerration. It's easier to judge seeing it for himself than through the mouths of others.

Still it's not difficult to remember how daunting it can be that first time, though.

"Are you alright?"

"What?" Grace flutters her wings awkwardly, stretching them out for just a second and then pulling them in tight against her again. "I'm fine. I've been in the medical room since it happened, and it's not like my ward or I got caught in the crossfire or anything..."

Yes, she knows he's not talking about whether she's fine physically. But Grace isn't good with other people looking after her. Mostly, she looks after other people.
