You can tell from the red in my eyes that I'm not right now at all...

Several people are having a Very Bad Day.

Nate is in the kitchen, sitting at the table in the back where he and Mat used to hide out before they got their wards. Sulking is not what he's doing. He's just... thinking. Very, very sulkily. There are several people he'd like to hurt now. Of course, considering one of those people is a First Angel, one ( Read more... )

Robin for his part is pacing hallways in the basement. Restless. Confused. A bundle of emotions and the narration thinks it is a miracle that he hasn't freaked out on anyone yet. Part of it may be the sudden appearance of his sister who he had thought was dead.

It's not that it makes him more calm. It just makes him more uncomfortable, keeps him more occupied, and leaves him feeling too lost to properly react to much of what's happened down here.

His wings aren't out. His wings are never out. Always denying what he is.

"Grace?" He says her name as if he's sighing in relief It's possible that he is. There are very few people he could stand being near right now. "How is she?"

Grace stops as she notices Robin, giving him a tight smile that's still much too stressed. "She's fine. I won't be able to keep her sedated much longer, because everything keeps wearing off, but... as long as she doesn't tear out her stitches once she's up, she'll be okay." It's as encouraging as she can get now. She hadn't seen Romana in full archangel mode until this happened - she'd never seen an archangel on the hunt at all before this happened - and it's kind of shaken her.

"Ah. Okay then. Good," he says, absently, scratching the back of his head as he glances down the hallway toward the medical room.

Then he turns his attention back to her, looking at her more closely now that he's got the basic question out of the way.

Robin reaches out to touch her arm, softly, raising his eyebrows. Obviously with as long as he's been with Romana, he's seen her in many frightening modes. He's not sure if any of those times could compete with what he heard about this last time, however, but it could just be exagerration. It's easier to judge seeing it for himself than through the mouths of others.

Still it's not difficult to remember how daunting it can be that first time, though.

"Are you alright?"

"What?" Grace flutters her wings awkwardly, stretching them out for just a second and then pulling them in tight against her again. "I'm fine. I've been in the medical room since it happened, and it's not like my ward or I got caught in the crossfire or anything..."

Yes, she knows he's not talking about whether she's fine physically. But Grace isn't good with other people looking after her. Mostly, she looks after other people.

Robin is not used to looking after people. Not like this, anyway. They make a fine pair right now.

"Yes, but still..." He twirls a hand in the air, some vague gesture that seems to imply more than he can put to words, which makes this all the more difficult. Robin lets out a breath. "You were there for it, right? The attack part of it, too, correct?"

The details of what happened during the event come out different depending on who's telling so he can't really make assumptions based on what he's heard.

Grace sighs and wraps her arms around herself, nods tightly while looking to the floor. "I- Yeah. Yeah, I was. It was..." Romana shot two men who'd done nothing but try to keep her from killing someone. And even if the person they were trying to kill was a demon, Grace isn't exactly sure she's comfortable with that.

No, scratch that, she's pretty damn far from comfortable with it. She's really had enough of war to last a lifetime, and would rather not have another happen where she lives.

"Yeah," Robin frowns, shaking his head and making another vague gesture with his hand. "I get it. Well, sort of. Honestly, I've only heard rumors about how it all went down and I'd rather hear it all from someone that I can trust. So would you mind talking about it with me? You can sit, have a cup of coffee, and talk about it."

He's asking her more for her own benefit than his.

He would follow Romana no matter what she did (almost) so hearing the truth won't change much from his perspective if only give him a better idea of how much distance he should keep from her. If he should simply fade into the background to take care of things and fetch her food, drink before she has the chance to ask for it.

Grace frowns a little, eying him uncertainly. "Are you sure you want to... I mean, if you want me to tell you, it's fine. I'm fine. I just... Yeah, sure. Coffee would be nice."

When Grace is upset, she either tends toward rambling or a lot of short, abrupt sentences. It's a toss up.

Robin smiles at her, places a gentle hand on her arm, and leads her toward the cafeteria.

"Good. Cause if you were denying a cup of my coffee then I'd have to be seriously worried about you." He winks at her.

Yes, his is better than Starbucks. No... really.

He doesn't allow her anymore room to argue, however. Simply leads her to a table, fixes them both cups of coffee, and returns to the table without another word or moment of hesitation.

Grace can tell there's really no arguing, and slides into a seat at one of the tables, waiting with her chin cupped in her hands until Robin returns. "Thank you," she says with a smile, and then takes a long drink. Robin coffee helps with many things. Somehow. "So, um... what exactly did you want to... know? I mean, I'm sure everyone's been telling the story all over the place... Or maybe not, I was in the medical room the whole time, so I really don't have a clue."

"Yeah, they've been talking, but everyone says something different so..." Robin shrugs acting as if this, all of this is absolutely no big deal at all.

As if they were talking about a football game or the weather yesterday.

"Just tell me what you know from your point of view. At least, I know you were there and I trust you. You don't hate Romana like most down here, but you don't follow her blindly either so I think your opinion is the most reliable."

Grace sighs and stares down into her coffee for a second, then looks back up at Robin. "I guess... I don't know exactly how it started. Something about a demon with a guardian angel. And Romana wanted to kill him. The demon, I mean. I guess he helped with the plague, so Jack tried to stop her, and..."

And then it got nasty and complicated, and God, she likes Romana, she doesn't want to think that she would shoot a man just because he stood in her way.
