Random reflection on what made a fic 'popular'
Finished the VK fic the other week. I can't believe how popular that one is/was -- it got a lot more attention than I was expecting. ^^; Then again, it was an entirely PWP / lemon fic (I made myself write it that way to get over my stupid squick about writing intimate scenes). (I ship both Zero x Kaname and Kaname x Yuuki as you know. ;D)
The fandom mostly goes for Kaname x Zero, very few people write Zero x Kaname.
But fans of those two are lucky to have some of the very best writers of the fandom writing them (especially Blackened Wing), while Kaname x Yuuki usually have less luck, hence why people were so delighted when they saw your lovely Kaname x Yuuki fic. X3
Unrelatedly, I ADORE your portrayal of Aidou. XD *still laughing at his misadventures in the latest fic*

I've heard the name Blackened Wing often in the fandom, but I just never seemed to get into yaoi and shonen-ai the way so many of my friends did. ^^; I keep meaning to go through ff.net to look for fics to read to familiarize myself more with the fandom, or to look for a shonen-ai/yaoi fic that is 'lighter' -- hopefully I'll get a chance when the Christmas holidays arrive here. ^_^b
And I'm so glad you liked Aidou in the latest fic -- I have too much fun torturing that poor little vamp! (hee hee!) ^_~ I hope more Kaname x Yuuki fans get into writing fanfic--er, patient, well-written fanfic-- to help alleviate the 'drought' of 'good' fic for the fandom. ;)
Because the fact that I may be one of the 'best' is kind of terrifying. XD
(OH NO! I'll really start writing that "Cockblocker Aidou" series afterall! AAAAAHHHH!)

I don't think the fic got the attention because it was a lemon. ;D
I think you don't realize you're one of the best writers for Kaname x Yuuki in the whole fandom! XD *lol* (Maybe even the best.)
That's THE fic that got everybody to realize that. :)
There's VERY few people writing good Kaname x Yuuki fics out there, so we're a bit starved. XD Then you come in and write the characters lovely & IC and with an interesting plot on top, (it wasn't a mere PWP, the feelings were awesome too X3), so it's only natural that we'd love the fic! ;D
The way you portrayed the feelings between them and the way they were together was irresistible. X3
The lemony stuff was very tasty, but it was definitely not THE thing that made the fic so good. :)

I wrote some Kaname x Yuuki fics, but usually I'm running around doing random things and end up not having time to dab much into fanfiction, as it's easier for me to express myself through drawings. (English not being my first or even second language also makes the writing process a lot more slow and full of me doubting my word choices/tweaking endlessly etc., which makes it occasionally hair-tearingly annoying too. XD; *lol*)
Out of such a productive fandom!
The fandom is productive, but such a sadly huge amount of that productivity is Mary Sue fics and fics were you wonder "who are those people with my favorite characters' names?? Because they sure don't behave at all like them..." XD;; (In some cases it can be understandable depending on a number of things, but when it's just ( ... )
