Random reflection on what made a fic 'popular'

Oct 15, 2008 21:58

Finished the VK fic the other week. I can't believe how popular that one is/was -- it got a lot more attention than I was expecting. ^^;  Then again, it was an entirely PWP / lemon fic (I made myself write it that way to get over my stupid squick about writing intimate scenes). I'm wondering about writing a sequel, but not for a long time. Nothing's coming to mind, and I have enough on my plate for now. ^^;

But I hadn't realised how popular that kind of thing (lemon fic) really was. I see now. I can see very clearly.

Maybe I just need to completely ditch the plot on my other fics, toss in a bunch of sex scenes (or quasi sex-scenes), and poof, they may get attention, too.

... somehow less gratifying for me, though...

I haven't had much to write since then anyway. ^_^; Time for another short break, I think. ^^; October & November are pretty busy around here, Oktoberfest traffic surges notwithstanding. Also, I'm catching up on some of the fanfics I have on my 'watch' list.  I've missed reading them! Plus, new to the list, "Midsummer Madness" is a find from daring to use the 'Search' function on the Pit this past weekend. Avatar-verse Zutara fic which I'm currently enamoured with, typos,  punctuation-hell and all. XD I really love some of the reflections the author gives the characters the chance to discuss; down to earth, plausible, and very perceptive at times. I like it. *^_^*

/... end of my random fandom babble for now. ^^;
