International banking....still sucks! I somehow ended up with two opened bank accounts, and had to spend the afternoon between lectures going downtown to sort this out. No wonder they thought I was laundering money! Anyhow, everything should be back to normal, and I should have only closed one of them, but who knows at this point. The real ( Read more... )

Dr. Balog used to have Smarties in his office all the time. We decided somehow that eating an entire package at once (yes, at once) would give you a quantitatve bonus to your intelligence for the next hour, so every time somebody had a quiz/test coming up, they'd come eat ten packages of smarties, all at once.

To say I didn't participate would probably be a lie, but it was pretty amazing.

you do mean the kind of Smarties that are almost like M&Ms, but better, right? Not the dinky American ones that are just sugar...

Let's say you've got a very limited budget for the upcoming week - purely hypothetically, let's say you only had four pounds and three pence. How would you choose to feed yourself? Perhaps you'd go for essential, filling foods such as bread, potatoes, pasta, beans, milk, cheese, etc. Or perhaps you'd buy Smarties. This is another one for the annals of the College Survival Guide.

Additionally, I think it would be educational if for the remainder of the semester you continued the tradition of making comparisons between the Welsh and smurfs. It sounds like a good graduate dissertation. (Speaking of which, book recommendation, in line with Borges, Out of Sheer RageBeyond your generic emo-moment and castles in the sky, only slight progress on the staid approach to life. But given that the stated goals are to avoid emo-moments, as they are cliche journal occurrences, I believe the best recourse is to make your entries more like TV. So: I'd highly appreciate it if, in addition to the Smurf comparisons, you also provided more sitcom like ( ... )
