I think it's cool to work with stock cuz it's the underdog in the icon community now. I remember how many pretty stock icons I used to see back when I first started on LJ 5 years ago. There are still tons of talented stock makers out there, so good for you for focusing your efforts more in that direction. Nothing wrong with that! (Nothing wrong with using textures either, obviously. TEXTURES ARE THE BEST.)
It is ridiculous how much progress you've made, honestly. I mean...just look at those last three icons. That entire last post, lbr. Your coloring + text work are ridiculous, and the composition of that Rumple icon is spectacular. A trick or two? More like...all the tricks. Ever.
Man, to say there's a major difference between the two sets of icons you displayed is a MAJOR understatement. You clearly light and color your icons very differently now, and your compositions are also very playful and complex. Ludos on continuing to improve throughout 2012. I'm sure there are big things in store for you this year, too! :D
First post of 2012. (Technically. My post for an 'out of the box' round at inspired20in20 is first, but that's not really reflective of me generally speaking so.)
I just love how you can pull off any type of colouring and make it flawless. And let's not mention your lighting. Idk, it's extreme sometimes but I really love it that way? I think you just went from brilliant to even more brilliant this year!
I kinda like when you pile on a million textures. It's what makes your icons so fun to look at! But I know they can overwhelm an icon and blah blah blah, so it's good that you know when to scale back and such.
I really wanted to make an icon progression post, but I get lazier and lazier every time I think about doing it, so I'll just stick to posting here. :P Plus, my icon posts were all over the place because I always posted stuff I'd made months ago, so it'd be hard to order that. My "first post" doesn't have the first icons I made in 2012 but I don't know which ones those are because I posted them several posts later. Ugh, organization: I didn't do it right.
I love how you're more comfy going all-out crazy with your compositions. They're really fun to look at, and they make me concentrate on what I'm looking at, too. I like when you have to look closely to catch the finer details of an icon.
