So...I think that basically a year ago I barely knew how to make icons apart from cropping and adding like to a base, and now maybe I've learned a trick or two? I still haven't got a proper style, I know I like muted and vibrant alike and I tend to like contrasted icons and lately I've been trying to experiment more with composition and text. 2012 was my first full year of icon-making, so here we are :)
It is ridiculous how much progress you've made, honestly. I mean...just look at those last three icons. That entire last post, lbr. Your coloring + text work are ridiculous, and the composition of that Rumple icon is spectacular. A trick or two? More like...all the tricks. Ever.
Man, to say there's a major difference between the two sets of icons you displayed is a MAJOR understatement. You clearly light and color your icons very differently now, and your compositions are also very playful and complex. Ludos on continuing to improve throughout 2012. I'm sure there are big things in store for you this year, too! :D
You've made such strides with your iconning. When I was going through your icon posts to pick my favorites for the other activity, I couldn't even believe how far you'd come in a year. I'm looking forward to seeing what icons you come up with in 2013!
Unf, you've seriously progressed so much. I used to be astounded by your speedy progression in icon skills over at the yuku board and while I always liked that glowy colourful style of yours I like how much control you now have over it. I also love how much smoothness your icons now have to them and that you've been more willing to take a further step ahead in composition of late. And don't bother about having your own style too much (I at least think you already have a distinct one of your own), I guess such things become more cemented with time. :)
RH caps hate me, so the icons I posted at the board at first were definitely not my best I'm afraid... Actually I have this habit of not trying out too extreme things until I think I'm okay with the basic steps, so now I that feel more comfortable with colouring and lighting I'm having fun experimenting with composition and text. But I didn't want to do it until I felt I could make good 'simple' icons, if that makes sense, lol. And yes I completely agree about style, I think I'm slowly finding it, but it took me a while to decide which way I wanted to go. Anyway, thank you for the lovely comment!! (And sorry about the rambling :))
