"Are they back yet?" Stevie walks up and down the deck, the eyes of the whole crew and Xabi laying upon him.

No one answers and as Stevie repeats, "Are they?" everyone focuses on their fingernails or boots. Eventually, it is Jamie to answer with a low voice, "No, Captain. They aren't."

"WHAT?" Stevie shouts at him, smashing the glass of red wine he had been holding in his hands.

Everyone's eyes spring wide open and everyone hopes that someone else will say something to take the blame. It's not their fault that they aren't back yet. Not that it's been that long, but their mission is enormously important and thus the Captain's rage and concern are somewhat understandable.

"But Stevie, it's only been a few hours. Relax. Everything is going to be fine."

A hand touches his shoulder from behind, stroking him. As Stevie turns around he sees Xabi smile at him and he can't help it as some of his anger vanishes. Xabi's probably right, he thinks. Yet Stevie can't help feeling a little regretful for having sent John and Luis to deliver the document with Stevie's demands and the note that Xabi is his hostage to Governor Rafael.

What if someone captured them? You never know.

Xabi continues smiling at him softly before he goes on, "And apart from that, I know my father. He will try and negotiate with them. Just don't worry."

Stevie nods at him and for a moment he can see doubt in Xabi's eyes, some kind of hesitation. When Xabi licks his lips, Stevie becomes aware that Xabi might want to kiss him, but might be scared to make Stevie angry by doing so in front of the whole crew. Instead, Xabi smiles and focuses on his boots.

"I know you're right. Just call me once the bastards are back. I'm in my cabin."

As he finishes the sentence, Stevie bends over to kiss Xabi softly on the lips. As Xabi blushes slightly, Stevie only laughs almost inaudibly.

"I'm expecting you in my cabin, Xabi," he goes on, quickly rubbing thumb over his lover's dry lips. Xabi blushes some more as he nods.

As soon as Captain Stevie is gone, Xabi becomes aware that everyone of the crew is staring at him, various pairs of eyes resting on him and following his every moment. Xabi smiles shyly before he clears his throat and whispers, "Excuse me." With quick steps, he walks towards the Captain's cabin and with each step, he can hear how the crew's laughter fades.

"Come in!" he hears Stevie shout once he knocks on the door. When he enters, he finds Stevie standing by the large table, looking at a map of the Caribbean Sea. Little ships and castles are placed on this map. For a moment Xabi thinks back, how the two of them played strategic games, together as little boys, imitating their fathers, great Captains of their time. He thinks of how they played with their fathers' maps, planning fancy battles. Xabi sighs.

"What are you thinking, Xabi?" Stevie asks softly as he beckons him to come closer.

"Can you remember how we did that, too? As little boys, I mean." He pauses.

"I can. This time, it's not a game among children though. Come closer, Xabi."

Stevie waits for Xabi to approach until they stand next to each other.

Stevie takes off his uniform jacket, revealing only a see-through linen blouse underneath. Although it's hard, Xabi somehow manages to stop himself from touching Stevie. He thinks that after all those years of abstinence they have a lot to catch up with.

Xabi studies the map, all the places that are familiar, that he visited with his father as a little boy when his father would take him on one of the trading ships. His mother was always scared that something might happen to her only child, but Xabi loved this kind of adventures. Memories. He misses his mother, even after all those years.

Stevie seems to sense that Xabi feels sad, as he tenderly starts stroking his lover's back.

"This is where we are. Here. The MS Liverpool," Stevie explains, pointing to one of the stones being shaped like a ship. "And this," he goes on, "this is our target."

Another ship.

Xabi does not speak. He has a presumption of what Stevie is hinting, but he's still too unsure about it to speak it out.

Another pirate ship, maybe?

"Xabi," Stevie looks him directly into the eyes. "This is the MS Chelsea, the ship of the pirate who killed our mothers."

The pirate who killed their mothers?

Xabi swallows hard, he knows that he does not have to be ashamed of crying in front of Stevie, but still. Instead, he swallows the lump in his throat.

Stevie continues as he notices that Xabi is too emotional to speak, "This is Captain Terry's ship. He's one of the most dangerous pirates of the Caribbean. He's the one who killed our mothers!"

Xabi only nods at Stevie, whispering a very silent, "How did you find out?" Tears in his eyes.

Stevie caresses his lover's face, running his delicate fingers over the dry skin. He places a loving kiss on Xabi's lips.

"People in the taverns are willing to tell you fancy stories Xabi, if you are willing to pay well."

Xabi nods again, still speechless and shocked that the murderer of his mother is still alive and maybe even still killing people.

"We even found out about the port of call of their ship. We know about their hiding place."

With finishing the sentence Stevie points to a place on the map. A cave, a mysterious place. Xabi's father never would bring him to. Because it's a dangerous place and because it belongs to the colony of another Governor.

"The Devil's Throat?" Xabi says in surprise.

"Yes, the Devil's Throat. Fitting, eh?" Stevie makes an effort of a joke. But as soon as he sees that Xabi is still in total shock he notices that he failed.

"What are you planning to do Stevie?"

Xabi also does not understand why Stevie is telling him that, the hostage. But when he asks Stevie, the Captain only smiles at him, "See, Xabi. You are more than a hostage to me and if you want it or not, you'll have to stay with us until everything is over. As soon as we hear from your father, we will make further plans."

Xabi nods, smiles. Eventually, the smile turns into a broad grin.

"Am I becoming a pirate now, too?"

Stevie giggles as he turns to face Xabi, "If you'd like to."

They stand opposite each other and for a moment it feels as if they hadn't ever been separated, still young men, ready to become sailors in the Governor's fleet, promising careers. Xabi's mind takes him elsewhere as suddenly someone knocks loudly against the door.

"Enter!" Stevie shouts, looking at the person disturbing.

It was Jamie, the one-eyed pirate, probably a close confidant, maybe even a friend of the Captain.

"Captain," he says, "Luis and John are back. They just returned from Governor Rafael."

"Damn them! It was about time! Bring them in!"

Jamie nods and quickly leaves again.

"Stay calm, Stevie, won't you?" Xabi says softly as he steps behind Stevie.

It does not take long until Jamie returns with Luis and John. Xabi shivers a bit when seeing John as he thinks back that John was the one who wanted to cut him into pieces and feed to the sharks.

As soon as they enter the cabin, Stevie yells at them, "FUCKING HELL! Why the fuck did it take that long? Arrr, bastards! I guess I don't want to know!"

As he finishes the sentence both John and Luis blush immensely, only to confirm that Stevie really does not want to know.

"I should throw you over board. Make you walk the plank. Nothing new for you guys, the plank, right?"

Xabi has to grin to himself, he just can imagine Luis or John standing on the plank every now and then, if they are like that all the time, that is.

"So guys, what did the Governor say?"

Suddenly, Luis becomes very excited, like a little child on Christmas Evening. Restlessly, he triples from one foot to the other, probably dying to report to the Captain what they just experienced. However, it is John to speak in a low voice, "We were immediately brought to the Governor by the guards when we mentioned that we have the Governor's son as a hostage and that we only bring a message."

Stevie nods. He had not expected otherwise. "And then?"

"We told him about his son being our hostage and that we have certain demands," John continues, "When we gave him your letter, he read it and then -"

John has no chance to finish the sentence as an utterly excited Luis shouts, interrupting, "- He did not believe us, Captain!"

The way Luis says it, it sounds as if he was pouting at the fact that someone accused him of lying.

Xabi releases a little giggle, saying, "What do you expect? You're a pirate!" But immediately as he notices that Stevie, Luis, John and Jamie are staring at him, bemused, he apologises, mumbling a quick "Sorry."

Luis only shrugs, before he goes on, "But then we showed him Xabi's amulet and he went all blank!"

Luis still triples excitedly as he waits a brief moment if anyone wants so to say something. The amulet. Xabi was given it as a present by his grandfather and always carried it with him. It feels strange not wearing it at the moment. Yet, he had agreed that the pirates needed something to prove that Xabi was their hostage, otherwise his father would not believe them. Luis smiles as he hands Xabi the amulet. Xabi is surprised that he did not lose it.

"Well, as Luis said," John goes on, "the Governor finally believed us. He signed all of our demands but we had to promise that nothing will happen to his son."

Xabi holds his breath, wondering for a few moments what Stevie is feeling at the moment. But as soon as Stevie grins broadly he can imagine it too well.

"Excellent, excellent." Stevie looks at Jamie before he goes on, "Jamie, tell Sami that we are meeting after lunch to decide about further strategy. You can go now guys."

Stevie nods at John and Luis, signalising that after all he is satisfied with the outcome of their mission.

The cabin empties itself and just before Xabi is about to step out, Stevie says, "You are staying. There's plenty of time until lunch."

They smile as they slowly approach each other.
