Note: This is the third part of the pirates series. I finished it last night because I am procrastinating, like I am doing right now. This is unbeta'd, so the usual: if you come across mistakes, I am grateful if you point them out. Hope you guys enjoy it! Oh, yes. First part to be found here and second part to be found here.

After lunch, Captain Stevie and Xabi meet with Stevie’s deputies and close confidants Jamie and Sami in the Captain’s cabin in order to discuss about further strategy.

The men chatter a bit about this and that, random things really, and Xabi feels a bit out of place, like this, not being able to join the discussions about special taverns, whores at those taverns and the booze.

Life as a pirate.

The pirates are in a cheery mood as Stevie says that they finally should start with the strategic discussions because there is no time to lose. Quickly, Xabi fetches the map and stones to unfold everything on the heavy wooden table in Stevie’s cabin.

Thoroughly, Stevie places the little stones of different colours and shapes on the map, just the way they were before Luis and John returned this morning with the news that Governor Rafael has agreed not to interfere in Stevie’s business, mainly because his only son, Xabi, is Stevie’s hostage.

Once all the stones have found their particular destination, both Jamie and Sami study the map, trying to get a full picture of their situation and to be able to give the Captain some good advice.

“So, this is where we are. And there’s the MS Chelsea,” Stevie explains, though it is already absolutely clear to Jamie and Sami.

They both nod, neither speaking for a few minutes. Eventually, it is Jamie, the one-eyed pirate to open the discussion, “When did you plan to attack, Captain?”

“And where?” Sami adds quickly.

Xabi swallows hard. For the first time he realises that this is really getting serious and that there’s no turning back for him or anyone else now. Unless you fancied being the sharks’ dinner, that is.

“Here. In three days,” Stevie explains, pointing to a strait on the map. “Between the Isla Santa Isabella and the Isla Rey Carlos.”

As three pairs of questioning eyes lay upon him, Stevie goes on, “From informants we know that the MS Chelsea can be expected to dock in Port Royal tomorrow to leave the men some pleasure, get fresh food and so on. After that, they will sail back towards the Devil’s Throat to hide the stocks. They will have to pass the strait between the Isla Santa Isabella and the Isla Rey Carlos. That’s where we’ll wait.”

Absolute silence in the cabin. Eventually, it is Jamie to break this silence, “But Captain. Their ship will be full of fresh guns, cannons, gunpowder and other weapons. In our current state, empty as our ship is, we stand no chance!”

“But with all that stuff on board, they will be damn slow. And in the strait there will be little chance to escape,” Sami states.

Xabi’s eyes lay upon the men, who speak as if he were not there, who ignore him entirely. He would love to give his opinion about the whole matter, but is scared that this’ll only get him into trouble because, after all, no one asked for his opinion. Thus, he keeps quiet and continues observing the men. He keeps watching Jamie as the pirate nods, as if to signalise that he thinks about Sami’s words.

“Exactly!” Stevie shouts, euphorically, “That’s our advantage. And we still have tomorrow and half of the day after tomorrow to sail to Port Santa Maria to load weapons. We’ll need nothing else. Only weapons.”

Jamie keeps nodding, now also smirking broadly, “And because our ship is smaller and a lot faster than theirs we have still a lot of time to prepare.”

“And even in case we can’t win a battle against them, we still can flee and have best chances of escaping. Nothing can go wrong,” Stevie continues his explanations. “So, what do you think?”

Both Sami and Jamie grin broadly, rubbing their hands, “Perfect plan, Captain.”

And again, it’s as if Xabi were almost not there, standing by himself in the corner of the room, not quite in the group of men. Almost.

Because then, Stevie turns around, facing him and looking him directly into the eyes. “What do you think, Xabi?”

Xabi coughs as all eyes are suddenly lying upon him, suddenly taking notice of him. Him, the one no one bothered about before. And now that he is asked for his opinion he simply, he simply can’t say anything.

“Erm, I-I don’t know,” he stutters, “To be honest. I, erm, know nothing about this ship. I, erm, I don’t know Stevie.” He lowers his gaze in shame. Doesn’t want to face any of the pirates as they judge him with piercing eyes, probably thinking that it was a mistake to let him know more than the rest of the crew.

He’s not even a pirate.

“Come on, of course you do,” Stevie tries to encourage, taking a step closer to Xabi. He places a hand underneath his lover’s chin and forces him to look up and focus on the map. “What do you think, Xabi?” He repeats his question.

Rather to Xabi’s surprise, both Sami and Jamie nod encouragingly at him too.

“I think, erm, I think, it’s a good idea. If we catch them there, they have no chance to escape as the strait is almost too narrow for them to turn around and they will need a lot of time to do so. That’s when we’ll have to attack. And if we leave all our food in Port Santa Maria we can load more weapons and should be able to equal with their amount of weapons. We must make sure to use the moment of surprise well.”

Stevie smiles at Xabi, whereas Sami and Jamie simply continue nodding.

The Captain rubs his hands, mumbling the words “Excellent, excellent” more to himself than anyone else. “So be it,” he finally states.

“I’ll have to tell the men in a few minutes about the plan, in the meantime, Xabi, are you still taking the fighting lessons your father lets you have? Fencing and stuff?” he asks.

“Yes, I do. I am even pretty good by now,” Xabi smiles, proud of himself. He’s been taking lessons since he was six and his father and his teachers always confirm that he is very good.

But Stevie only cocks an eyebrow, looking at Xabi and then looking at Sami. “Arrr! Sami, make sure he learns how to fight. I don’t want to lose him, alright? If anything happens to him, you’ll be the next item on the sharks’ menu. I’ll make you walk the plank personally! Jamie, you come with me to tell the men.”

With finishing the sentence, Stevie leaves the room, Jamie following him immediately. A bit perplex, Xabi remains in the cabin with Sami. The pirate only grins broadly at him as Xabi shakes his head in disbelief.

Sami lays his hand on Xabi’s shoulder, leading him outside. He leads him across the ship, downstairs into the bow. Once they stand in front of another cabin, Sami opens the door that leads to a room full of all kinds of weapons and war equipment. Guns, epees, sabres, barrels with gunpowder, daggers and whatever else someone might need. Sami picks a few items, giving Xabi half of them.

They don’t speak as they make their way up on deck again. Sami leads him to a quiet corner at the back of the ship. Probably the space where the ropes are kept as you find them lying everywhere.

They stand face to face as Sami finally speaks again, “So you know how to fight, son? Rule number one: Forget everything your teachers taught you. Rule number two: You are fighting pirates, don’t expect any etiquette or mercy. Rule Three: Fight like a pirate yourself, only that will keep you alive.”

As he finishes the sentence, he points his sabre towards Xabi, challenging him to do the same. Once Xabi got into position, the way he learnt it back at home, someone starts roaring. However, it is not Sami standing opposite of him (though Sami is having a hard time not bursting out laughing too).

“What? Did you have a broomstick for breakfast or what is up with that stiff posture otherwise?”

As Xabi turns around, put off, trying to find out who’s laughing at him, he sees that Luis slipped off from the pile of rope he has been sitting on because he had been laughing so hard. Luis must have been there right from the start, sitting in the corner, peeling potatoes.

Sami joins him laughing now and Xabi cannot help but blush furiously. God, this is so embarrassing.

“I know now what the Captain meant with ‘Sami, make sure he learns how to fight’”, Sami grins. Turning to Xabi, he goes on, “Son, our fighting is not about looking pretty or about winning honours, it’s about staying alive and killing the other faster than he can kill you.”

Luis still chuckles madly, hardly being able to concentrate on his potatoes. An enormously important task, after all.

From the corner of his eyes he watches as Sami approaches Xabi and steps behind him. Slowly, Sami lays his hands on Xabi’s body, correcting his utterly stiff posture, adjusting it to their way of fighting. Moving a hand here and a shoulder there.

Once Sami is done with him, Xabi thinks that his fencing-teacher would die of a heart attack if he saw him like that, totally ignoring the rules that he was taught, about elegance and nobility when fencing. But then, Xabi concludes that he hardly ever had to fight for his life before. That one time when the pirates captured his ship and killed everyone but him, to take him as a hostage, probably doesn’t count, since the pirates were told not to do him any harm.

“I wonder,” Luis is still laughing, “I wonder, whether he is that inflexible in bed, too.” With finishing the sentence, the little pirate grins broadly at Sami.

“Oi, Luis. Be careful when talking about the Captain’s current favourite toy!” Sami shouts into the little man’s direction, laughing out loud once more.

Xabi doesn’t believe his ears, cannot believe they are really talking about him like that, with him still standing in their middle. He wants to shout that he is there and that it’s disrespectful to talk about him like that. The Captain’s favourite toy? They must be fucking joking. Uncivilised bastards. They have no idea.

Instead of saying something, he decides to make a move. And it’s a quick move. Too fast for Sami to react, Xabi brings his sabre up, pressing it against the other man’s throat.

“If you’re not going to shut up, the Captain’s favourite toy will cut your throat. Get it, son?” Xabi growls, more than a little enraged. He stares Sami directly into the eyes, as the other man swallows hard.

“Inflexible he may be, but also very passionate,” Luis chuckles, “I think the Captain likes that.”

With finishing the sentence, Luis looks at Xabi again, biting his lips. And when Luis grins at him, Xabi can’t help but laugh a little. He takes down his sabre, much to Sami’s relief.

“And at least, we don’t have to fear about his reactions. He might have realistic chances to survive,” the blonde pirate laughs.

Over the next hours, Sami will show him some movements that might be helpful, explains him how to react when facing an opponent, maybe even in such situations of being disarmed. Not only does Sami show him how to fight with a sabre, but also how to use the dagger or his bare hands even.

Xabi is amazed at how easy it looks when Sami is showing it, as if it where nothing and the most usual thing in the world. To point a sabre at someone and fight. But as soon as Xabi tries out himself and as soon as Sami says, “No, no, no! Not like this. Watch me again!” Xabi realises that it’s not as easy as it appears to be.

Though Sami might be a tall man, a strong man, he is definitely not slow in his reactions and movements. Xabi understands now why the Captain chose him to show him how to fight.

And then, another quality of Sami he gets to know is when Xabi gets tired and starts complaining that he has had enough - enough hits with weapons, that did not hurt him in the sense of making him bleed, but that still hurt and make his whole body ache - that’s when Sami will only give him a severe look and tell him that they are not yet done. He will even torture him a bit more and ask him to do more exercises to practice his fighting, not only the fighting itself but also exercises to train his sense of balance and everything else he might need. No mercy.

Xabi groans a little as he follows Sami’s orders and takes yet another hit with a stick because he was too slow in his reactions.

“How is he doing, Sami?” a voice echos across the deck. As Xabi turns around (and not focuses the blonde pirate anymore and thus gets hit again, right into the side that already hurt so much) he is more than happy to see Stevie approach. He hopes that finally the torture is over. He thinks he’s been hit enough today and apart from that he is a little hungry too. But whenever he told Sami, told him that he is sick of all this, the pirate only pretended not to have heard him say anything, so maybe he’ll be a bit luckier with Stevie. Maybe Stevie will have some mercy for him.

“He’s doing alright, Captain, for someone who knew nothing about our way of fighting.”

And then he finally stops. Stops torturing Xabi. A nice feeling, isn’t it?

Stevie smiles at Sami, but to Xabi’s horror the blonde pirate answers with “yes “as the Captain asks him whether Xabi will need more lessons tomorrow.

Ai, no.

Why is no one caring about his opinion, by the way?

“How do you feel? A bit tired?”

Oh, there you go.

Xabi nods at Stevie, his whole body aching and screaming, “Leave me alone. Now. Give me a hot lavender bath and a nice soft bed” Not that there were any to find here, this is a pirate ship after all and not quite like the palace-like home he used to live in, so the bed with the spring poking into his back in Stevie’s cabin must do. But it would.

“Show me what you’ve learnt, Xabi. I want to see it.”

Xabi’s eyes spring wide open. Fight in front of Stevie’s eyes, being hit even more and his lover watching.

Erm, no thanks?

“I am a bit too tired for that, can’t I show you tomorrow, Stevie?”

But even before he can finish his sentence Sami got in position to challenge Xabi. Well, at least he smiles a cheeky smile, that lets Xabi hope that this time he will be a bit gentler and not hit him every two minutes. As soon as Stevie has this typical “No, no, no” expression on his face and asks Sami to hand him one of the sticks they have been practicing with, Xabi thinks this might turn into a little nightmare.

“Get into position, Xabi.”

God, he always hated Stevie for being so stubborn? But what can he do?

Nothing to be exact. And that’s the reason why Xabi indeed does get into position, challenging Stevie. Sami’s standing behind Stevie and gives orders behind his captain’s back, gesticulating and trying to signalise that Xabi needs to lift his arm a little more and that he always needs to focus on Stevie’s feet.

Xabi makes a mental note to thank him for that later on. He’s still focusing on Sami as Stevie hits him in the thigh.

“Pay attention, Xabi, dammit!”

But Xabi only growls at him, not quite satisfied with Stevie telling him off in front of Luis and Sami. And all the other pirates that come to join them, because they think there’ll be something to see. Sometimes pirates can be nasty sensation-seeking creatures.

And then, Stevie hits him again. Not very hard, it does not really hurt (well, it does, but probably only because Sami hit the very same spot at least 10 times during the last hours).

“Xabi, you have to watch my movements! Stay focused!”

Xabi wants to tell him that he can well fuck off and that he is tired and that unlike the Captain himself, who probably had a nice little nap in the meantime, he had been on deck the whole afternoon, watching Sami and training and being hit by him. Is it not somewhat normal that you get tired and that your movements and reactions become slow? He thinks so.

But Stevie has no mercy, just like Sami had no mercy. Is it Xabi-torture-day today? He didn’t know before. Xabi cannot estimate how long they stand there and how often the Captain hits him. Every time he does the pirates go “Uuuuh.”

After being hit even more -Xabi couldn’t bother count - and hitting Stevie a few times back - though there is absolutely no relation - it seems as if Stevie had seen enough. He turns around, handling Sami the stick and nodding at him, showing he appreciates what Xabi learnt throughout the afternoon. He gives the blonde pirate a few instructions that Xabi fails to hear, but really, he couldn’t care any less as he stands there, panting heavily, holding his side that hurts like mad.

Then Stevie turns back to Xabi and smiles. He fucking smiles. The man Xabi wants to grab more than anything and choke him until he gasps for air, stands there and smiles at him. It might be a gesture of affection, of appreciation but to Xabi it looks more like mockery.

“Can I go now?” He snarls and as Stevie nods, a bit perplex, all Xabi thinks about is leave. This humiliating scene with everyone staring at him, him who just showed how much of a great fighter he is. Xabi, great pirate you are.

With quick steps he heads towards the Captain’s cabin, because this in fact is the place he’s staying, has no cabin of his own. All he desires now is a bath, relax those poor hurting muscles and maybe never speak to Stevie again.

He slams the door with a loud bang. Alone, finally. Slowly, his breathing returns to normal, calming down a little. His eyes wander over the room, searching for a bathtub, only to be reminded that it’s not that easy on a pirate ship to take a bath and that he has no idea how people here do it. Ask one of the other pirates to run him a bath is certainly the least thing he wants to do. A bowl. That’ll do.

He steps in front of the mirror as he slowly starts unbuttoning his linen shirt. Carefully, he touches his left eye. Sami hit him there too, so did Stevie. It already begins to swell a bit. It’ll turn blue by tomorrow, just like the rest of his body.

As he shrugs off his shirt to investigate his side, the door opens. However, Xabi is too busy examining his bruises to take notice. He’s startled when there are suddenly rough hands on his skin that do not belong to him.

“I was searching for you,” Stevie whispers into his ear before he bends forward to place a sweet kiss on Xabi’s shoulders.

“So what?” Xabi states, trying to sound as blasé as possible, trying to ignore him as much as he can.

“You shouldn’t have left that quickly. The others wanted to congratulate you because you did so well, Xabi,” he says softly. Tenderly, Stevie starts stroking Xabi’s side, the side where Xabi’s hand still lay absent-mindedly, exactly that side that’s almost killing him.

Xabi is still furious though and Stevie’s little compliments won’t change anything about it. He concludes not to say anything at all.

But Stevie does not give up as he continues stroking Xabi. In the mirror he can see how Xabi grimaces as soon as he touches his side.

“Does it hurt badly? Let me see.”

That’s the moment when Xabi frees himself from Stevie’s touch and turns around to look him directly into the eyes.

“You’re not going to touch me at all. How could you do that to me? Humiliate me in front of everyone, Stevie! You know it yourself. You humiliated me!”

He glares at Stevie. He gives him only until he’s counted to 10 and then he’ll hit him. Xabi might need more training when it comes to fighting with sticks and sabres, but his fists, he knows how to use those.

“I can’t see your problem, Xabi. You did incredibly well. Everyone knows that you’re not used to our kind of fighting and for that, you are already very good. So, where’s the point?”

The fact that Stevie is so utterly calm might enrage Xabi a little more. How can he pretend it was nothing? And how is Xabi supposed to be taken serious by anyone when they all saw how he got hit by his lover in front of their eyes?

When he tells Stevie so, the Captain only shakes his head and smiles at him. “If you had stayed a little, stubborn boy, you would have heard how they said that you hit me quite well a few times and that they told you well done. They like it when their Captain gets hit, you know? Probably especially if it’s by his lover.”

With finishing the sentence, Stevie bends over to kiss Xabi softly on the mouth. He grins against Xabi’s lips as his hands moves up to stroke his lover’s hair. Slowly, he parts his lips, poking out his tongue to caress Xabi’s lower lip. And as Xabi opens up, allowing Stevie’s tongue to slide past the full lips, he does. Their tongues meet and Stevie can feel how Xabi lazily starts kissing him back, teasingly slow, as if he had all the time in the world. As they separate, their tastes mixed, Xabi can’t help but soften a little and smile at Stevie.

“I was only being gentle, Stevie. I didn’t want to humiliate you in front of your crew and make them lose respect for you. That’s why I let you win, you know?”

He smirks before he claims Stevie’s lips with a greedy kiss.

“I know, Xabi, and I am very thankful for that.”

They laugh a little and as he has to laugh, Xabi holds his side, the pain almost killing him. Well, not quite, but definitely being incredibly uncomfortable.

“Does it hurt badly?”

Of course, Xabi tries to play it down, saying that it’s ok and that he’ll get over it, but Stevie insists being told the truth. And when Xabi finally admits that it hurts quite bad, Stevie softly strokes his side.

“Start undressing,” he orders, before he goes on, “I’ll quickly go and tell Luis to prepare you a bath. Lay down on the bed, I’ll be back soon.”

As Xabi takes off his pirate clothes (he is no longer wearing the official uniform but was given some of Stevie’s clothes), he concludes that it’s indeed time to spoil him a little bit at the end of this Xabi-torture-day. He will definitely enjoy the extensive massage, which will lead to a quick blowjob from Stevie or the long and comfortable bath at the end of the day.
